Questions about different brands of lube

hello, id like to know what the major (if any) differences are between the various brands of lube. is there a definitive "best" lube in the industry? i always see posts by other members stating something along the lines of "i love ____ lube, i wont use anything else" or " _____ lube doesnt play well with so-and-so brand of paintball marker". now to my understanding they are all dow33/55 based, right? so what makes one brand favorable over the other? im using smart parts sl33k, only because that is all my local pro shop carries. it does it job well (as far as i can tell), but would i be able to tell any difference by switching over to another brand?

You shouldn't use a lube just cause its "the best".

You should only use the lube that is recommended by the factory for your gun.

You are currently using dow33, which is great for spool valve guns.

im sure that goes without saying, however that is not why im asking the question. i am not concerned about using the best lube, im more curious as to why some people prefer one brand over the other. why pay $15 for 1oz of hater marmalade when i can get 2oz of sl33k for $7?

The fancy brands are for suckers. Dow 33, Dow 55, and air tool oil are pretty much all you'll ever need. In theory changing lubes may get you slightly better efficiency or a smoother shot, but in reality it doesn't make a noticeable difference in most cases and it can cause problems.

some lube is thicker, some is slicker, some is more durable, some stands up to heat/cold better, and some is just cheap. use what you like best, as this is the topic of paintball where you will get the most varied answers. use what you like, provided the gun will work with it. dow 55 swells orings, so dont use it on anything that moves. use it on things like ram houseings etc.

Dow 33 on anything electro (solenoid driven), and Good old Gun Oil on non-electro or electro sear trippers. All Ive ever used and never have issues.

Can get a lifetime supply of 33 from a few different places

dow55 swells most Orings, so watch out when you're using it, most markers hate it to my knowledge. Bob Long guns are the obvious exception.

As far as lube, you use DOW33, just get some decent dow33 based lube and you should be good to go. I, personally hate Hater products that are supposed to serve a purpose other than a decoration like the halo plates.

I like Lurker Lube, Kila Ice Cream, and MacDev Militia Lube the most. Slick Honey and Oringmonkey Monkey Poo is great stuff as well. Some of the high end industrial quality DOW33 based lubricants should be even better and cheaper as well. I haven't used any, but it's supposed to do the trick much better than about 99% of paintball brand lubes.

Not all lubes are Dow based though. For instance, I use Techt Gunsav. It lasts longer than Dow in my spools so I don't have to relube as often. Is it a fancy gimmick lube? Nope. It's great and that's why I use it. Would I be better off using a Dow based lube? Nope. Been there, done that.

Petroleum based I think. Might not be though because I've been using it for a long time on several guns and never had it give me oring problems. Petroleum is supposed to eat orings.

Dow 33 will work on almost any spool, and if you actually pull the bolt, wipe it down and put new lube on it, it will never die on you.

That said, this year I decided to try techt salv on everyone of my spools, from my shocker to droid, pm7 and g3, no broken orings, no probelms, so it does work, better, not sure, but it's not worse
