You don't own a pod, you own the rights to a pod. If you walk on the field with 4 pods, you are allowed to leave with 4 pods, it just may not be the same pods you walked in with.
Who came up with speedball? Can you imagine that conversation when the NPPL super 7 was thought up? "Tell you what, lets put 14 people on a small field with a bunch of giant balloons and let them just have at each other." Then PSP? "Okay, the 14 people was fun, but I've got an even better idea. Lets only put 10 people but we will put them on a smaller field, with smaller balloons and see how many games they can run back to back before they collapse from exhaustion."
What was the conversation leading up to the first paintball game? "I'm bored, want to go out back and shoot each other with logging equipment?"

That would be SC Village. May 7th, 1989. Wasn't inflatables of course back then (that's only one type of many speedball variations). Read about it here...

Neither format just showed up fully formed, they evolved. 15 man woods, then 10 man woods, then 10 man on a simple speedball field (wood bunkers), then 7 man, 5 man, 3 man (usually based on the size of the available field), then fields made from drainage tubing (hyperball), then the first inflatables, and on and on.

It was a philosophical debate between Hayes Noel and Charles Gaines in 1976 or 77 on weather being able to survive when being stalked through the woods would be based more on the environment where you grew up, or from some innate instinct. Would a laid back country boy be more or less likely to survive than say a cut throat stock broker.

I figured everyone was going to make up jokes, poke fun at paintball and each other, didn't realize this would be such a somber affair.

Courtesy of my nephew on our 2 hour trip home from playing a scenario: "Guys, i gotta check my nipple...this guy kept arcing his balls into my chest, but he couldn't bust his balls, they just kept bouncing off!"
For four exhausted ballers in a truck after a long day of ballin', that was GOLDEN

" Its a sick and perverse thing we know, but its what were good at. Shooting people for a living playing paintball. Yea that's right paintball. In the real world thinks this is lame or crazy or fun or waste of time. They don't understand what we do or how hard it is, even the wife's the girlfriends, family, friends they don't understand the battle our battle for glory for money for the people you believe in, but mostly for respect. And for this fight that no one gives a **** about. We traveled hundred of thousands of miles and hundreds of towns and shot thousands of times. Slept on floors, in train stations and, bounced rent checks. Because were good at this cause it is hard and humbling because some days you can really be a hero to your friends. And if your boys and my boys ever meet on the field in a gun fight. We will **** you up!"
