It's very rigorous, and you'll spent most of your career in the northwest. Also, you can make BMC without any sea time, at the expense of your sanity.

I like you guys, you never rock the boat.
Joking aside, you chuckle heads need to venture outside this thread sometime. Your comedic value would be appreciated everywhere.

I'm going to talk to a recruiter on Thursday. Ideally I would like to gain ME rating, get certified to board vessels, and then join a TACLET team. How elite are these positions and how long does it usually take after graduating boot camp before someone is on a TACLET team?

Thanks for the help! Which of the three, TACLET, MSST or MSRT is the most "elite" or are they all seen as "equal"? They all seem pretty awesome and just what I would love to do.

And also, you dont have to be an ME to be a boarding team member.

Exactly. I was a boarding team member as a non-rate only a few months out of boot camp. I let my qual expire, since I spent 3+ years as an out-of-rate MST (doing zero boardings), and just got requalified as an Ensign.
Long story short, pretty much anyone in the CG can be a BTM. If you go to a smaller operational unit (station, smaller cutters, etc.), your odds of going to FLETC are pretty good, even before you become an ME.
...good luck to you!

You can put me down for lack of devotion to duty. Playing paintball on duty rocks! (cell phone duty FYI, so no real UCMJ violations)
Also, IT3 Murray from ESD Portsmouth, VA checking in! We got any other twidgets around these parts? I saw an ET at TRAPET a page or two back. Also, Bethel Battlefield is awesome for those going to TRACEN Y-Town. Hit me up there on the weekends if you want to shoot at each other....

I did the exact same thing while I was at ESD Baltimore. I even got on a team and played the PSP World Cup in Orlando.

Sounds like a plan! I'll be at Yorktown from 25 Jul to 25 Aug for Domestic Marine Inspector. I'll be TAD this week (sunny Miami!), bit shoot me an email. Last name's Nessia...only 1 in global. Lemme know if you can't get hold of me there and I'll PM you my cell.

I called a recruiter a couple weeks ago to talk about joining and he said there was a recruiting freeze in place until January at the earliest and there was no way we could even meet. I called him again on Friday with my ASVAB results (93) and all of a sudden the freeze was lifted.

Yea...I support a few of the recruiting offices here in the Hampton Roads, VA area, and by all accounts, wait times are around a year no matter what. It does help with a higher ASVAB and possibly a degree, but even then, you'll probably be waiting for a while unless somebody else ahead of you backs out and you're in the right place at the right time.
With the waits in place, the recruiters won't even talk to people unless it's worth their time. That means a passed physical, a very good ASVAB, and a squeaky clean record. Our recruiters around here are appointment only. Without an appointment, you won't even be able to get into the office, let alone talk to anybody.

4 years ago was different than it is now though. 4 years ago we were still upsizing and pushing 50-100 companies through boot camp in a year. Now, they're pushing around 12-14 companies a year through, and trying to downsize. Once a republican comes back in office, it will swing back the other way though...it's an endless cycle.
