What a **** day, Aussie has Parvo

We just got back from the ER, she has a STRONG case of parvo

The chances of her contracting it from being with us is very nil.. since she started showing signs on Friday and we picked her up on Wednesday. There's a chance she could have gotten it from her vaccination (she had her 4 week and 8 week)..

We submitted her and she's on fluids/drip and under 24 hour watch at $1,000.00 a day. at 3-5 days.. one expensive pup but a life is a life.. and even though we've only had her for 4 days she is our baby, and we're going to do everything we can to have her pull through. She has an 80% chance of pulling through.

Please keep little Macey in your prayers tonight.. it's been a very said evening, but we're pulling for the best!

Parvo is I guess similar to the stomach flu.. i'm still learning about it myself.

Prom, I believe intestinal but she has only been at the ER for 4 hours. so I'll know more tomorrow morning.

She is under 24 hour care with only one tech who is dedicated to her. Her white blood count is still normal, but her protein's have dropped a bit..

we're crossing our fingers.

Good luck buddy, I'm sure you've already grown attached to her. I hope it works out for the best.

Sorry buddy,

sounds like she has a good chance to pull through. even better news is that it isn't likely she got it from your home or yard

Thanks guys,

luckily Macey made it home!.. she was in the hospital for 11 days, and she's been home for 8 now.. and is a total fireball of energy!

they had to shave 3 of her 4 legs for the IVs, Plasma and Blood Transfusions.. but the hair will be back in a couple of months. So after $12,500 of vet bills.. she's finally able to be a puppy!

here's some pictures:

Damn...That's a really bad first few weeks with your pup. Did the breeder's health guarantee not cover parvo?

Well, no breeder would cover parvo due to it being a contracted virus and not something they can have genetically.

BUT, talking to the breeder we have learned that the whole liter was exposed, and our pup (as well as 2 others that went home 2 days before ours) are the only ones that survived out of 7.

So someone who visited the pups tracked the virus through there, wiping them all out.

We'll be refunded back what we paid for the pup, but that's not much towards the vet bill ha.

at least she's alive.

holy ****, 12.5k in vet bills? i mean, i guess if you can and are willing to live in hollywood thats not too bad for you, but still, holy ****. good to hear your pups doing good though. are here eyes different colors?

extremely sad to hear about the whole litter though. how does one bring that in and expose it to the pups? i would be so pissed at that person it wouldn't even be funny. so sad.

Yeah OC.. big vet bill but what are you going to do.

She has marble colored eyes.. blue/green/brown... kind of interesting.

Parvo is insanely contagious.. it can be tracked in by someone who walked through a patch of grass a dog with parvo had done it's business 2 years ago and he'll have Parvo Virus on his shoes, then track it all about..
