Looking for College Teams who have been granted permission for on campus practice.
Title sums it up. Just got a school recognized team at Pitt State University, however the other day we were running drills on some un used land at the back of campus when we were stopped by campus pd and informed that despite being a School Recognized Club and Team we would need to go through both the University and City to receive permission to practice within city limits, and that the city actually has an ordinance against the discharge of any sort of firearm, including paintball markers, within city limits. We have a field sponsorship, however the field is an hour away, cant always get down there, it would be nice to be able to run drills near us. So far we have been more than cooperative with the school, even providing storage for freshman with gear as they are not supposed to have it in campus housing. What I am looking for is any instances of Teams being granted permission to practice within campus or city limits that we could reference in our paperwork.

Which school are you with? Is the team recognized on a webpage or anything we could use to reference this? We arent expecting too much trouble from the University, but the University still answers to city ordinance. So we would really like to have a sound case before we go in to the city. Need to have bases covered and such. Thanks for the help!

City laws override school rules. Just like a field cannot be located within city limits if the city bans pb guns.

That entirely depends on state law, for example in NYS penal code, the authority of a private educational institution can override the state law. This however is NOT the case in all states, so you may want to read up on the penal code for your specific state, I'd start with your campus pd as they should be able to give you code and associated law.
