I own the LOTR books and have listened to the audiobooks. Definitely worth it, in my opinion. I'm about to finish the Dark Tower series, so that's when I'm gonna get started on these books.

But this is the Movies & TV section and not the literature section, so I wouldn't expect the other people here to want to read the books. I love reading fiction, and the Song of Ice and Fire books have garnered great reviews by readers. So I'm looking forward to them. Like said before, it doesn't get much drier than LOTR (which I thoroughly enjoyed), so these books should be a walk in the park.

Just watched the season finale. It was a little too predictable. Fantastic certainly, but there wasn't anything about the episode I wasn't expecting.

IMO if they'd extended the first 9 episodes into 10 it would have made for a better cliffhanger. The last one actually gave some measure of closure.

I've read all the LOTR books, i was just stating that its not like most people are going to want to read numerous 700+ page books or listen to a buch of 40hr audiobooks. The reason I don't want to read the books is because they'll ruin the show for me and the production is so fantastic that i don't want that.

Yeah, I think that much is definitely understandable. If I didn't have to wait until next ****ing April for my next taste of the show, I would agree completely. But I just can't wait that long, and I'm gonna need some new reading material very soon. And for all I know, I may not even finish the first book by the time the second season comes.

Either way, I feel that the production is so good that I doubt it'll be ruined by the books. We'll see, shan't we?

I've read the books and I still really enjoy the show. If anything, knowing what happens ahead of time makes me really excited for next season.

Yeah that was another thing I forgot to mention. Everyone I know that's read the books has a really high opinion of the show.

Book 1 was only 800 or so pages, 2 is closer to 1000 and 3 1150ish. Kind of stupid that season 2 will only be 10 episodes.

With that said, I was hardly able to make it through 2 episodes of this show, I enjoyed the books MUCH more.

They've already had some elements of book 2 this season.

Also you are wrong, the only problems the show has are those inherent from the book.Casting, Acting, writing, costume and set design are all top notch.

Where in my first post did I say the show had problems? I just said I didn't enjoy it as much as the books. With that said, I haven't given it much of a chance, having only watched 1 full episode and skipped through bits of the 2nd.

Won't go further into details about it though, apparently you are a child and my opinion is wrong.

Who's being a child? I think you should take my post less as an all out attack on you and more for what it was: me taking the opportunity to make a thinly veiled gush over how great I think this show is, and how everyone who thinks differently is dumb and their mommy doesn't love them anyway, so nyah :p.

That last part was sarcasm, just incase you or anyone else thought otherwise.

Sarcasm doesn't work on the internet, at least without a dodgy.

With the overly elaborate way the author writes, a few hundred pages doesn't make a huge difference transitioning from book to TV.
