Optical (OPTO) vs Mechanical (SWITCH) Trigger

I just got an Ego 11.

It is defaulted to use the optical (OPTO) sensor to tell the marker when to fire.

I bought it used and I'm pretty sure the previous owner had it setup to use the mechanical microswitch (SWITCH) to fire.

What are the advantages / disadvantages to both?

Which do you use and why?

Thanks,
Don

Optical means that there is a sensor on the board that reads when a part of the trigger passes a certain point. The microswitch uses a small lever that "clicks" whenever it is pulled to the activation point.

I personally like using the microswitch because it is technically more adjustable (the screw on the switch can be adjusted, whereas the optical sensor location is fixed). Everyone has different preferences.

Personal preference. Some like the feedback/reliability of a mechanical switch. Optical sensors can be flawed by paint, dirt or stray light getting into the frame, causing the marker to fire (or not fire) sporadically.

I just recently got back into paintball and picked up a used ego11. I used to shoot an LCD Angel. It had a microswitchand I had it tuned so perfectly.

When I picked up the Ego11 and started playing with the trigger I was really concerned. It had lots of slop and felt like a toy. After spending over an hour reading the manual and playing with the adjustmet screws; I've found that the a microswitch feels more solid than the opto activation. I'm also heavy on the magnet and rebound trigger.

End of the day its sooooo customizable that you will be happy one way or another.

Just my .02
