Insect repellent on your hands = insect repellent on your bait = fish repelling bait.

carefully.
if it's a lip hook, we can use a dehooker that's a few feet long. or use a rope and loop it over the hook so it's down in the curve of it. have someone hold the leader attached the hook so it's tight, and when you yank the rope in the opposite direction of the leader the hook will usually pop loose. hard to explain, but it's the most effective.
throat hooks, dehooker
for gut hooks/swallowed hooks (very rare, but they happen) we have no choice but to cut the leader as close to the shark as we can. the leader/hook will dissolve in a few weeks time of being in the salt water.
for all scenarios we have someone mounted on the sharks back carefully holding it's mouth open like pictured above. i've had my legs scratched apart from their skin plenty of times doing that ****. just like road rash.

Remember I said couple days ago corn wasn't doing **** for me? Found my new favorite thing, spam sausage! I was hooking fish left and right. Caught a nice brown trout.
Oh and I hate sunfish dearly. ****ers won't leave my bait alone so I can catch the few carp's I saw.
My friend's flyfishing setup wasn't doing anything for him today.

Hooked something huge today. Snapped an eye off my rod, bent 2 others, and broke my 30lb line.
Didn't even get to see what it was The way it was fighting, though, it was either a massive flounder, or some kind of skate/ray.

Thats why I do it. Every time I come home from saltwater fishing, I am ready to pack up and move to the coast. I would sell my bass stuff in a second if I could be closer to the coast.
BUT, I am working on a boat right now that I am going to outfit for some near shore bottom fishing, trolling, etc. Assuming I can get it running reliably, I hope to start stocking up on bottom fishing gear soon.

6 hours of sitting on the beach yesterday and all i got was a bad sunburn.
the 13 wind surfers didn't help with the fishing either. had 2 of them run right into my lines. rage.
i'll stick with night fishing.

Any recommendations for a decent surf / pier / icw rod? Looking in the 30-50$ new or used range. I was thinking something 7-8'

For $30-50 i'd look at bass pro/offshore angler brand stuff.
