Custom painting Dye rotor?
I've seen it done but what paint is used to do it?
Would Krylon Fusion work like with masks?

Any sort of Spray paint for plastic should work. You are going to want to get the protective clear coat too for when you are done

What about the top piece that screws into the top portion of the shell, will the spraypaint fill that gap if you remove it before you sray? I am getting a diferant collor acent kit so I dont need it in the long run. Should i just leave it on wile spraying and take it off before the paint dries?

Came out awesome. I would sand it with a heaver grit next time tho. like 500 instead of 1000. I dont think i let the paint set longenough couse theres a few smudges from trying to get the acent windows back in

You sanded the hopper down some BEFORE applying the paint? That helped it adhere better?

I didnt sand at all. Any of the times I painted it. Sanding down rubber/plastic didn't seem smart to me. I prepped hopper with alcohol all over then applied 3 coats of white then splatter then 2 coats clear. No issues with mine whatsoever.

Yah, I wasnt sure how it would hold up in play without any kinda prep. I know when they spray some nylon plastics they heat it with a blow torch before they clean it with alcahol. I didnt have a blowtorch but sanding it with 1000 didnt make much a dif to the texture.

Finally finished mine! As for the post above I will be shooting a few balls at it next week as well as my mask to see how they hold up but they should be fine.

pm egoballas for a paint job. no sure if he still does them, but his personally blue-white-purple splash on his old rotor was really nice.

wow this thread was forever ago lol but I'm not mad
I know he doesn't really get on here that much anymore so I will answer for the OP. He used krylon fuzion for all layers/colors, and even clear coat. I am not 100% sure if he used gloss or not. I want to say he only used a gloss clear coat.

My teammate's answer below your post is mostly correct. Used Krylon Fusion for the colors but then went back with a Matte Krylon Clear Coat. Clear Coat was NOT Fusion but it seemed to do fine. Can't be 100% certain because I sold it soon after I finished the job but I never really had doubts about the strength of the job.

They have transparent paints that are see through. Model hobbyists often use these. From my experience they work pretty well. There's also transparent tinted plastic that people use on car lights that are decently priced.
