Dye UL, Dye CF, Deathstix, Deadlywind?

I want to get a barrel for my etek 3 LT (white/black)

I was wondering what people think of the dye ultralite, the dye carbon fiber, the deathstix fiber, and the deadlywinds carbon fibur barrels? Im going with a .689, I shoot the same paint 90% of the time and that matches the bore perfectly. Going with a 14". Any advice would be great, thanks!
and if I didnt list a barrel you like please mention it!

DW fibur with ss insert should equate to a dye c/f boom?

Deadlywind. I was never impressed with Dye barrels. No experience with Deathstix.

(Nerdcore) Personal preference is totally up to you and understandable. Backing it with factual information would be helpful. Take a look around the pro circuit and even in the woods for that fact. There are more pro players that use our barrels that any other manufacture out of choice not sponsorship. If you take a chance to use or shoot one of our barrels and look at the honing, quality and time spent on machining the back and tip to line up properly, and overall fit and finish I think you may see why our barrels have set the standard for high end barrels since we started our company.

That being said comparing a UL barrel to a CF barrel is a close comparison to a Ferrari and Bugatti. They are both super fast cars but the amount of craftsmanship that goes into a CF barrel allows us to build that much better of a product much like a Bugatti.

Getting specific. Dye UL barrels have a 7 control bore (almost standard for all 2-pc. Barrels) Dye CF barrels have an 8 control bore. In doing testing this allows the ball to reach terminal velocity before air starts venting. Depending on the gun and set up this will allow you to run (on some guns) lower dwell and lower pressures. This does a couple things. One, makes you gun quieter. Two using less air making your gun more efficient. In addition a little easier on paint. Also, being that the CF barrel has a stainless steel sleeve, Stainless has a much lower drag coefficient than traditional Carbon Fiber or aluminum barrels. If a ball break ever occurs the barrel will clean faster and easier than a traditional carbon fiber or aluminum barrel. Not all carbon fiber barrels are created equal. Most have much shorter control bores than the Dye CF barrel and their stainless sleeve are not polished to the surface quality of the Dye CF barrel. At the end of the day get out and compare these barrels in side by side testing. This will allow you to see the difference and justify the amount of money you spend on a barrel at any price point.

ULs are great, been using it for a while with my DM and NT... no issues
CF UL is very pretty.... sounds slightly different to the UL, but shoots about the same
Deathstix are nice and light.... slightly louder though...
DW Fibur with inserts are about the same as other barrel kit, but lighter...

All good barrel kits, and shoots as straight as the quality of the paint you use.

Chris- It depends on the definition of control bore. To me it means the area the ball touches before entering the front half of a 2pc barrel. If the threaded section where the barrels join was 2in long I wouldnt say the control bore is 9" it would still be 7".

freak- 5"
UL- 6"
CF- 7"

Personally love my Deadlywinds barrels. But I always used to rock Dye boomsticks/ Dye UL's way back in the day and always loved those before I bought a freak kit.

Honestly if I had the money and could do it all over again I would very seriously consider getting a dye set. I've always loved how durable and ultra mirror finish the interior honing is on those barrels. Plus the porting looks cool and is quiet.

But I don't think I'd give up my deadlywinds barrel at this point. It shoots great and despite sticking it in the dirt sometimes its holding up beautifully. Also so light its mind boggling.

The best barrel I have ever used is the Lucky 15, hands down. It's now the only barrel I shoot. It's quieter than anything else I've used, and has a mirror bore, even better than my UL. I have owned/used CP, Dye UL and Boomstick, Stiffi, Freak, Evil Pipe, etc. The Lucky 15 is better than all of them. True, it's a one piece but that doesn't bother me at all. They also make a 2 pc in .689 that shoots very well. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the Dye UL too.

Rocking deadly wind here with freak inserts - haven't had another barrel/bore compare to it. Basically the differences between barrels when you have a bore match are so slight that its not worth changing.

If you want to become a better player I suggest spending money on a gym membership and work on your cardio before dropping 100$ for a slight and inconsistant change in FPS.

Awesome advice Richard Simmons, instead of buying a new barrel i'll sign up for some water aerobics classes at the local senior center...

Said I wanted to improve the gun, not my fitness level. Just ran the Boston Marathon in April, but thanks for the tips. Time to dust off my tae bo VHS tapes.

PhillySteve totally meant well....... please do not think he was trying to be an ***.... he's a good guy.
Just so many people complain or say a barrel is so much lighter than another - when it's only a couple oz differences.

But I got lotsa LULZ from your response. (PhillySteve = Richard Simmons of Paintball..... hahahahaaa)

to your topic: I like the Deadly Wind CF, with Stainless inserts. Great Super light barrel. But most importantly - I really think barrels are typically on par with each other. I really haven't shot anything that knocked me over, but for cost per shot. I really like a barrel you haven't mentioned, and that's Disruptive. It's a 2pc as the others you have listed. And you can never ever go wrong with a Dye UL. Just sux having to buy a couple backs to size your paint, as opposed to buying a Stainless freak kit and being done with it.

You really wont go wrong with any of your choices. I'd LOVE to have a UL CF, but I can't see spending $150 or so on it, even if it's expensive to produce, I just don't see any ROI for it. Many here will say "a tube, is a tube, is a tube" To each his own and personal preference.

Hope this Helps!

Haha I dont mind at all, was just breaking b@lls. I get very tired of the which barrel to get threads, there must be 5,000. Just had narrowed it down to a few diff ones, and wanted the opinions of the pb nation minions and needed to pass the time. Thanks for your input, ill check out the disruptive 2 pc after work.

It is no doubt that the Boomstick is the best choice but I would get it in non carbon fiber. I wouldnt invest the extra $50 (can be used for paint) because carbon fiber is just lighter. Thats it. When your playing you wont notice a difference. Also the lighter the barrel the more barrel rise has a chance to occur.
You said that you use the same paint most of the time. This is a good reason not to get the DeadlyWind because the whole point of that is to get different inserts for different sizes of paint.

Honestly, accuracy is mostly dependent on the paint you're using. There are so many good barrels to choose from with such little performance difference between them all that you will have a harder time finding a bad barrel. I suggest you should find a barrel that suits your bore size needs, and that looks good on your gun.

I have one of the older DYE ultralights on my ion and it shoots quiet and accurate with just about any paint (even white box). A barrel kit would be a better investment because you can match the bore size to the paint for better consistency and accuracy. Personally I am really rough on my gear so I would go with the ultralight because it has taken quite a beating over the years from myself and my friends that have borrowed my gear... just my 2c

I used to shoot DYE ULs until the paint size started dropping. I couldn't justify the amount of money they wanted for the backs alone. Eventuall bought a Kaner kit. Best barrel kit I've owned. So much so that I own 3 of them now. I've owned freak kits, Matchsticks, Shift Kits (my second favorite), Stiffi kits, ULs, AA, and a TechT iFit.
I throw the TechT onto my kits if the balls are smaller than usual.

You are best off using the lowest priced, well made barrel you can find that meets your desired porting, control bore, weight requirements. As others have said there isn't an accuracey difference only differences in efficiency, weight and sound. My personal preference is CP.

For the cash you blast out on something like a Dye CF (as nice as they are), you could be buying somether cheaper and using the money left over for 2-3 cases of high quality paint. This will have a far greater impact on your accuracey than any barrel will.
