Six weeks after submitting all required paperwork to the VA and my school, I'm still waiting on my book allowance and BAH. Sweet.

Cool, apparently congress took off without finishing up the revisions in the GI bill legislation...

"Congress forfeited the game - and it's vets who will now lose out.

It's outrageous, but true. Congress shut down a week early for the election season, leaving urgent GI Bill upgrades on the field and unfinished. Because of their inaction, thousands of vets will now be left waiting for their rightly-earned benefits.

For the past few weeks, you helped us push Congress to pass a critical bill that would upgrade and expand the new GI Bill. Over 10,000 Americans joined the fight. Together, we moved the ball as far down the field as we could - all the way to the ten yard line. We did everything we could, and Congress gave up in the red zone.

It's clear where Washington's priorities lie. Instead of delivering results for vets as the clock ticked down, Congress focused on political point scoring and partisan bickering.

We needed a touchdown, and they walked off the field. That's unacceptable."

I am currently buying a house for damn near $0 down thanks to the VA home loan. They took care of the 20% down payment that is conventionally needed as well as allowing me to roll my closing costs into my mortgage. Top it off with a 5% interest rate and it's looking like a ****ing fantastic deal.

Hmmm.... did you do all your homework? Sometimes another lender can beat the VA.

NFCU did, for me, with their "Veterans Choice" loan. Then again... I purchased a while before the bubble burst.

I'll let ya know once I'm all moved in. My current lease is up June 1st, so hopefully I'll be moved in shortly after.

That is an easy fix, just don't tell them about the higher degree. The "just don't tell 'em" approach works for SO MANY THINGS.

UNF is only accepting 49 of my credits and thinks my AA:Electronics Technology is craptastic, so they want me to take the SATs or ACT.

I'm too old for this ****. I'll pull a "General Education" associates (where the hell did Liberal Arts go?) at a semi local Florida CC and squeak in for the BS:EE without the damn SATs. **** SATs.

Any vets who can complete their degree before they are 30 years old, and may still have lingering feelings for the Military.
Go to your school's ROTC program, many times you can complete the program in 2 years since you don't need the basic course requirements - just an option.

Also, many schools have a veteran's association that helps you out and every school (should) has a VA rep that works in admissions or the bursur's office. They may do something else, but there is always a VA Rep to assist you guys in anything you may need - just gotta ask around.

haha I can just picture you showing up and testing in a room of 17 year olds at the local high school... if you're anywhere near my age that would be pretty awkward
