im wondering if anyone has started advertising doing this stuff to paint guns yet? i see it alot with cheap pocket knives and other novelty items, and recently kershaw (a middle-highend knife maker) calling it a Titanium-Oxide multi-colored coating

ive also read some chemical companys making the products to do this to everything from plastic, metal, titanum etc..

here is the kershaw, and make no mistake i have handled these in person as well as the old eclipse guns, they are IDENTICLE i dont care what anyones mumbo jumbo says about it.

The process is very expensive. You can cut the cost by doing large batches. The real problem is that the liquid is disposed of after each batch. 2nd cost problem is that the pieces must be roated during the process so that means special tooling for each peice. 3rd problem is that your gun or pieces must be nickel or chrome plated not all paintball equipment can this be done to. The color changes with different in angles in the metal so some of the smooth guns would not come out to well. Yes the process that was done with the aurora guns is a green tvd ( titanium vapor deposition). The coating is very strong, but is only as strong as your chrome or nickle plating job.

i see, great info. however, the process that is used on the kershaw knives is
1) 100% not chrome plated before they put the color onto the knife
2) does not change colors with different angles, the color you see is what you get no matter how you turn the piece.
ive seen eclipse guns as well, and the ones i have seen do not change color at all.

there must be another process out there. again, positive on the kershaw knife, its defintily not chrome plated. you can see this when you sharpen the blade, the transition from the color portion to the fresh ground steel shows no room for a chrome plating.

Yeah, not sure where the info that chrome plating is done first comes from, but that's not how I understood the process.
Straight TVD onto aluminum is how I understand it.
I think bawitheba meant that the colors are diposited defferently at different angles... not that the color changes at angles.

Yea the color does not change when tilting the piece it's when the metal changes shape the colors do change color with the piece. The kersaw knife does not have to be chrome plated it is stainless steel. For this process to work it must be a non porous metal like steel. Alluminium needs a coating like chrome or nickle. I know this because I have had pieces done. And they come in diffent colors ,blue,green (standard aurora),purple,black
Yes I had samples of all colors done a couple years ago.
