her genes are probably from england, they breed their yellow labs to be as white as possible unlike the american versions.

white is not recognized either...it is considered yellow...I think silver is black...but that could have all changed since the last time i checked about 5 years back

was yours bread to be white? or did she just come from really light lines?
the silvers and other colors that aren't recognized are bred specifically for the color.

Had 3 goldens, and one yellow lab/golden retriever. And she was one heck of a dog, tons of personality, playful, affectionate, and if she need to be, protective. God I miss that dog

Aa, thank-you. I was going to say the same thing. There's only 3 recognized colors of Labs- black, yellow and chocolate. Yellows can be anywhere from so light they look white, to such a dark color they look gold (those are referred to as Fox Reds). There's a lot of controversy about the silver color. There's some that say they are a diluted chocolate, and others who say all silver "Labs" can be traced back to one kennel that also bred Weimmaraner. A lot of people think it's an acceptable color because the dogs are registered- but they aren't registered as silver, they're registered as chocolate. Another "fad" color is charcoal- that's a diluted black.
ETA- to the original poster- that's a very pretty girl you've got there.

I think silver labs are beautiful but for some reason they are said to have more skin problems then the other labs. I dunno why just what I heard while I was work the other day from one of the vets.

It's kind of simple, really. People that breed silvers are only in it for the money. It doesn't matter to them if the parents have allergies, etc. And those issues gets passed on to the pups.
