Well while the thread is active I'm going to post some pictures of my '46 Cj2a im rebuilding from the frame up. It was my dads back in the 80's then he stopped driving it because it had no brakes and he had to ram it into a tree when he wanted to stop. That apparently became a problem when my sister was born. So it sat in a garage for about 20 something years. Now it's mine.

Before

Now, I had to rebuild the front 24" of the frame including the front cross member. I haven't put that in yet obviously.

Gonna put some 245/70r16 BFGs on it soon, the stock tires are getting low on tread.

There was a wrangler x with 37s on it at the dealership I got this from...drive shafts were at like 45* or worse angles and it had a d35 WTF

does the number after The D equal the biggest tire size applicable?

I.E the biggest tires i could run on my D35's would be.....35's???

So i could put 44's on my wagoneer?

Im running 33's on my d35 right now, but I agree with worrgames...not the best idea. 31's would be the biggest I would feel comfortable on. I have a 8.8 lined up in soon, and am driving lightly while i have 33s on my d35.

If i wanted to swap out my 44's onto my Cherokee. Would they bolt right up?(And line up with control arms/suspension) Or would welding be involved?

Any build threads with D44's being swapped onto an XJ?

search around pirate 4x4, xj 44's and ford 8.8's are easier to bolt up, but guys have swapped gm 44's with some work. The original XJ 44 was put on some cherokees with the tow package, can be swapped with a possible modification to the rear driveshaft. Its a length issue. The Dana 44 pinion is about an inch longer than the Dana 35 pinion, so technically youll need a driveshaft thats an inch shorter. In my case, my earlier suspension lift offset the extra inch of pinion, so the new axle truely bolted in. Second best choice would be the mj 44

guys in NJJC, M4x4, and cherokeeforum, pirate4x4, naxja, bunch of guys have been running 35's with no problems on a d35. I have 36's on my d35, no problems.

I believe it was 87 that had some cherokees come stock with D44's in the rear. D44's from other rigs will work but you will have to cut off the old brackets and weld them on. I am guessing your 44's are not from a cherokee so you will be wider than stock but you will need to weld new brackets.

I tow about 5k daily in the summer. But have HD leafs in the back. You say they included the d44 in the towing package? Whats to go wrong with my d35 under that weight load? Its been doing it daily over the summer for the past 2 years now. And my transmission has still got plenty o' nuts.....

Run 30's in the summer
