Scenario Player Footwear

Hello everyone! I thought I would ask fellow scenario players about their prefered footwear while playing.

I have seen some people wear cleats, but I see alot more players wearing milspec/hiking/work boots.

I just use an old pair of footwear, but I find the is traction lacking when I sprint.

So I ask what do you prefer and why?

I like hiking boots, personally. Something with good ankle support and thick enough soles that stepping on a stick the wrong way isn't going to ruin my day, but light enough so that they won't slow me down on a sprint. Good traction and waterproof is a plus.

Nike Landsharks. Mostly for traction when I climb ditches or run on the sides of hills.

cleats are the best for playing in long games but its important to ahve the right ones... you need to make sure they have rubber soles and not hard plastic ones....

hiking boots are heavier and dont have the extreme traction that you need

military boots are just silly, they hurt your feet and dont work well in paintball conditions

Where something comfortable for you. Traction is only relevent to the type of terrain your playing on. Cleats don't work so well if your playing on hardpack soil, wood ramps, cement, etc. (which are all possible at scenario fields) nor do they provide ankle support. Military boots take time to brake in, can be very affordable and easily found at surplus stores and are good in the woods but are useless at most indoor fields and if you're a sprinter their not for you. Hiking boots are a happy middle for many people. If your gonna go with cleats I would recommend trying Exalts. Good Luck!

sneakers are for playing tennis not scenario paintball. where there is mud and rain sometimes.

A good pair of boots is the way to go. I wear a pair of combat boots. they keep my feet dryand provide ankle support. for those that are too delicate to wear combat boots there are pleanty of more comfortable boots out there that are still water resistant

Oooh... wasn't familiar with those, but they look nice. I think I might have to go try some on for playing in dry weather.

I play in all weather with these football cleats... I also mountain climb and hike with them (sneakers are designed to be comfortable so they work perfect for these activities).... the only thing I dont use them for is playing in the snow which you need specialized gear for anyway.... think about it, what will give you better traction in mud and slop?

My problem is finding stuff in a size 15.

Exalt only makes 13`s and the land shark goes to 13.5.

So I am going with a pair of columbia hiking boots.

i use the delta8 boot from bates. they offer an array of police, combat and work boots. some are pricey but as most things, you get what you pay for. if you look on the net, you can find better deals than from their website. the upper is leather and nylon so they're lightweight and breathable. they even have a changeable position disk in the heel to meet your comfort zone. they also have the ankle support you need for those unexpected pot holes in the woods. took me out of action the 4 months with a sprained ankle before, using shoes with no ankle support. best part is they're side-zipping for a lazy person like me that doesn't like having to lace the boot every time i use them. the treads are kick because they have excellent traction in the woods or urban grounds.

i bought an $80 pair at a local army surplus store. i beat the crap out of them for 7 years. something went wrong that i didn't like so i contacted bates about it. they asked me to send the boots to them in michigan and pick whichever boots i wanted from their website. they sent me the delta's at no charge but to send the old dilapidated boots back to them. that's exemplary customer service!

I have been playing for 15+ years and have tried everything. The best thing I have found is old police boots. When I retire a pair from work it becomes my new pball shoes. They are light, waterproof and protect from rolling your ankles. Currently using a pair Magnums that I got around $80 and had worn for 6 months on the the job. Plus if you keep a good wax on there the paint comes right off. They also have a good sole for standing on your feet all day. My second fav is cleats but cleats are the worse thing you can use for some of the fields I play at that have a lot of large rocks to climb or wooden forts. Might as well be wearing Ice skates. Id say boots all the way.

I bought a pair of these several years ago on sale for 30$ and ive been wearing them literally every day since.

still in excellent condition, I don't plan on buying any new pairs of shoes for awhile. I take care of them and clean them as one should with any shoes.
Not much ankle support, but I prefer not to have that as it feels unnatural to run when that axis is inhibited. Regardless, I've not hurt my ankles once in them.

Check out your local REI or some kind of camping store; they always have excellent boots and often have ones on sale.

I have twisted ankles several times and now use leather, lace up boots with deep tread. Play a lot of hillsides with wet leaves and mud. Not much of a sprinter anymore at 62. Depends on how you play.

You know the Army and Marines have pretty much figured out footwear by now. They like those size 15 guys because they can carry machine guns and lots of ammo..... Think Surplus.

Color. White, red, etc sticks out pretty good. I wear a full set of leafy camo and have had my BROWN boots spotted on several occasions.. Military boots come camo but tend not to have the ankle support I need now.

I found a pair of the delta8 boots at a surplus store for cheap.

They look comfy and are cheaper than the Columbias that I wanted.

I wear New Balance trail running shoes. They give me traction in the mud andgrass, grip on rock and hard surfaces, cusion to run all day long. If I am worried about ankle support, they make cheap but functional ankle supports available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, or any other pharmacy. I work in the Physical Thearapy department of a nurshing home, and I can tell you, you don't need to spend all the money or sacrifice comfort to get something to support.

So, you guys can lug your boots around, you can slip on the stairs with your cleats, my trail shoes and I will not be parting anytime soon.

^ Loved my NB trail shoes. They were great for moving fast & gave me a lot of support. I lost them somehow & replaced them w/ a pair of Adidas trail shoes this past Summer. The thing I like most is how light trail shoes are but still give decent cushion & support as well as drain water easily. I wear some ankle wraps w/ mine as well, helps hold my aging ankles in line .
