My experiences with scheduling ICC events, and running games at my field, have shown me that Mother's Day is one of those dates to avoid. Looking at the calendar for nearby events, that April 30 - May 1st date is the one with least conflict at the local level. Shifting the date will put it within a week or two (or on top of) other local events.
I don't know how frequently local scenario players can afford to play. Do they need 2 weeks to save up for the next event, or do they need longer? If they need longer, that means avoiding local events isn't as important as giving the local players a reason to play your event vs. the other events.
Bottom line, what will have a bigger impact on your game? Will being closer to other local events have a greater impact on attendance than a regional event that's several hours away? Are the vendors a draw for the players, or just a perk that has no impact on numbers?
I have some other thoughts on scheduling I've learned over the years. Give me a call if you're interested in hearing them.
