It would be easier for you to just try to get on a team rather than join one, but if you want to go to your local fields and try to find some guys that are looking to get one a team and if you find some ask if they would be interested in joining yours.

You can start a team by going to the American Paintball Players Association (APPA) http://www.paintball-players.org and sign up for a player ID. Once you have a player ID you may register a team. Now that you have a team get some people to join APPA and your team (friends, people from your field, school acquaintances, etc.). It's all free until you enter a league and/or tournament.

It helps if you have a few friends to go out and play with- thats how i got started. We went to a local field and i ended up joining a team out there. So if you have a local field just start playing there and then tryout for a team there or just practice with them until you think you are good enough to join the team.
Hope this helps and good luck man!

Step one, find a local tournament (the smaller the better to start).

Step two, find enough players who also want to play it to fill out the roster.

Step three, pick a name.

Step four, show up.

It's really that easy to start a team. Pretty much describes the beginning of every team I've ever been on. Keeping one together, well that's a whole other issue.

You'll most likely do very, very poorly the first event. Any player who doesn't want to come back after that isn't worth hanging on to.

See PSU Ghost's Articles in the Ultimate Sticky V2. He has a thread titled Making The Team that, though it's 8 years old, still contains mostly useful information.

why would you sign up appa to start a team. if you are going to play any tournaments that require you to join the appa then join. until then it really isnt necessary and does not help in any way to get a group of guys together to play a tournament or to practice.
