bringing in the new year with something a bit different

So as most of you probably know, i have a bit of an passion for shockers. While working on a shego conversion for Umami, and coming to the realization i really dislike having a macroline running along the bottom of my markers i set out on a quest that will no doubt end in bankruptcy and something truly original. So without further a due I proudly present my mostly finished "SHUXE"

things to still make/do:
- body inserts
- cosmetic body milling (might happen, might not)
- fresh ano

basically i've tried to minimize the amount of work i had to do, because i'm lazy! lol. It uses a stock shocker engine with a luxe manifold, and a "modified" shocker noid. Everything in the grips is from a luxe. I also am using a luxe regulator housed in a custom machined vertical adapter.

EDIT**
got the reg cover done:

Operating theory

DLX made this almost TOO easy. With the frame lined up against the back ofthe shocker the manifold position is perfect for powering a shocker. you can see in this picture the general layout of the body after modifications. The green circles are the new air passages. HPA comes in to the left of the top insert and goes to the LH side of the VA (shown in red). the LPA then travels to the bottom insert where it is fed to the noid (shown in red on the manifold) via the bottom body insert. From there is it directed to the new body ports to cycle the bolt (bolt forward to fire in red, and bolt back in green). you can see in the first pic here that newly drilled air ports line up nearly perfectly to where they need to be. I even was able to keep the noid supply reservoir functioning.

Modifications to the body:
- Weld old air passage shut and resurface
- mill noid relief and add threaded holes for manifold mounting
- drill new air passage holes
yes, i'm still learning the TIG, and MAY have had it a bit high and melted one of the sides...

HPA and LPA passages in the VA. If my luxe reg ever craps out i have the option to use a normal bottom or side fed reg as well.

making of the VA

I probably should have taken more pictures while i was machining this, but whatever. I started out with a giant over sized hunk of aluminum.

marked out the rough size and cut that sucker on the band saw, and trued up the edges on the mill.

Put that sucker on the lathe and bored out the oring sealing surfaces and single pointed the reg threads:

roughed out the top surface:

and the rest of the work was done in one set-up, unfortuantly i didn't take much pictures, but pretty much i roughed out the curved section that meets up with the frame. The outside profile was then milled, HPA and LPA passages well drilled, and lastly the finishing contouring on the curved area. I still need to do all my clean up work as there are a few little rough areas.

Really enjoying this project. Bout time someone makes a macroline-less homemade.

thanks. it's been a lot of fun so far!

here's what i'm thinking for the reg cover. the black part is the actual reg. The cover will have "windows" for the reg to be seen through

my total break down so far:

frame: $80
board: $65
eyes and battery: $40 i think?
manifold: $20
trigger: $25
reg: $70
on/off: $70
grips: $25
NXT eye covers and detents: $35
total: $650 and counting...

I got the frame, manifold, and board used. everything else is brand new. I could have saved myself some cash by shopping around, but like i said, i'm lazy. By the time i'm done i probably will have been able to just buy a luxe, but what fun is that?

Well to no surprise it is coming along nice dude. by time your done you'll have a one of a kind shocker. much more valuable than a luxe if you ask me.

I have to start off by saying (no offense) this is ridiculous! Why not just shoot a luxe?, but hey it's your project. Seriously though, it looks like you put alot of thought and effort into this project, even though I really hate shockers, nice job!

A 'Waffle Shuxe' would be crazy (or several other PL Shuxes). Guess I'll be following this thread to see your results.

lol, yeah this is the hold up strange. this and i have no stock to get yours started.

yeah i'd love to make a PL shuxe, but i figured i'd try it out on a stock body first "just in case", lol. No reason to mess up a perfectly good PL body for no reason.

CS,
Hats off to you sir. I am very jealous of this project, can't wait to see more updated as this goes through.....

As for finishing touches, I say mill another (((o))) in the top of the body and throw a clear can in it so everyone can see the eigen in action!!
