Thanks Lane for being as blunt as possible about the changes.

It is really simple.
He feels these changes will bring more players to the PSP.
More players mean more teams.
More teams mean more entry fees paid.
More entry fees paid means more money.

More importantly, more teams means more people to divide the costs between. Everyone has to pay less if we have more participation.

I honestly don't see this. If they aren't getting the bills paid as it is they won't lower the entry or other fees involved. They need the money the extra teams would bring in to cover the extra expenses, not lower the cost and still make as much as they do now.
However, I really do hope this will help. I've been in the sport for 15 years now and have definitely seen the changes over the years, and am not ready for it all to be over with yet. However I also think that keeping the sport alive also lies on the shoulders of the players helping to bring in new people into the sport. I cringe every time I see a new player being overshot by somebody who considers themselves a "tournament" player but would rather go beat up on the new guys to raise their confidence instead of taking their lumps just like the rest of us have to learn and get better. If the new players aren't having fun when they are going out to play they won't want to do it again. Every day we have more and more people quit playing and not even half as many people starting to play regularly.
That being said I welcome the changes with open arms, I'm willing to try anything to get paintball back to what it once was. And I would highly suggest to anyone that loves this sport and wants the fields to stay around for us to be able to play at to get out and invite somebody new to come play. Just remember to keep it fun for them like it was for you the first time you played.

Agreed. The changes are meant to bring in new teams to try to increase revenue to keep the league alive, cause when it comes down to it, its all about money. The whole idea isnt to make the game cheaper for players, its to try to avoid raising the costs further for players because if more teams don't start playing, then entry fee's would have to go up even more to compensate. From a business standpoint I understand what he is trying to do, now if what he did was correct is up for debate, personnally i disagree with a few of the things. But it is what it is, so if it fails and the PSP survives, expect a change back....if the PSP survives

I think the only thing I'm not quite sure I agree with is the elimination of coaching on the pit side. I mean, there was the NPPL, then PSP was built to offer a different format with the option of coaching thrown into the mix in order to add another intangible element to the game. It's one of the rocks the PSP was built off of, so in the sense of tradition, it's hard to see the justification behind it, but as time goes on, sports adapt. Rules are changed. You see it all the time in any other major streamline sport, so why should paintball be any different?
Time will tell, and we'll find out firsthand Jan. 22 how it goes...
