Dpb Faq - Read Before Asking Questions

Original thread can be found here http://www.digitalpaintball.net/xmb/...ead.php?tid=45 , thread made possible courtesy of Adrenalin, Hat3d1, and Pills of the DPB community.

Q. Can't See the Paintballs
A. Go to Video Settings and switch to OpenGL. If it says your computer cannot support OpenGL, you need to download your most recent video card drivers.

Q. Where Do I Install DPB To?
A. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[your email here]\half-life

Note the [your email here] be sure to change that to whatever e-mail you used while registering your account with Steam.

Q. Sound Cutting In and Out
A. Usually pressing Alt + Tab then re-entering the game in your status bar at the bottom of the screen will fix this. If not, updating your drivers never hurts.

Q. How Do I Shoot Fast?
A. There are different methods of shooting fast:
- Bind mouse1 and mouse2 to +attack in console (type "bind mouse1 +attack", etc in console without the quotes). Then alternate pressing both buttons with your pointer and middle finger in a fast motion (it's called "walking" the mouse).
- Bind your scrollwheel up and down to +attack.
- Also walking mouse1 is just as effective.

Q. How Do I Script?
A. Scripting is cheating and is a global bannable offense. This should be avoided.

Q. I installed STEAM but I dont have a half-life folder
A. Login to Steam. Click on the Games tab. Right click on Half-life and click Launch Game. Play the game for like around 5 minutes or so. Leave game. Look in SteamApps folder...Now you will have a folder with a bunch of letters and numbers like 324u902u34-324324324. Click that, inside you will find your Half-life folder. Put your DPB folder inside of the HL one.
Now you have teh most best game in the world!!!!!!!.....half-life.

Q: When is 2.2 coming out?
A. Soon, but a watched pot never boils.

Q: What's the difference between a skin and a model?
A. A Model is just that, a model. You can basically model anything you'd like, in DPB's case there is a player model and several marker models. Depending on the map there could also be models present on the map but we'll leave that out for now. If you look in DPB's model/skin forum you'll see many 'naked' models that have not yet been skinned. These are usually just rendered, you can tell because there is no color on the render. A skin is basically what goes over the model. A skin does not change the shape of the model but a skinner can often times apply fake 'shadows' to make the appearance of milling etc.

Q: Where can I get Halflife?
A. If you're looking to buy a copy of half-life for steam, you should read this first.

Verify that you are buying an unopened copy of half-life, as a used copy could well have had it's cd key disseminated on the internet.

Half-Life Blue Shift, if you can find it, is normally much cheaper than any of the other half-life games, and it's cd keys work for steam just like any other.

www.froogle.com is a great place to start, and i've had great luck with amazon in the past: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...tware&n=507846 (Thanks to Kuja for this answer)

Q: Where can I get Steam?
A. http://www.steampowered.com

More will be added, this is a work in progress.

no its not. its "frowned" upon, but not a global bannable offense.

if you are caught using scripts in OGL matches, then your team can be kicked off ogl or jsut you alone, but in pubs (where most people play), scripting isnt bannable. just like bounce in real paintball.. in a tournament, if your bouncing- your gone. at practice, if your bouncing.. nobody usually cares

The Basics: Well, for those of you just starting, I am going to fore-warn you on somethings that may get you banned. A- Never shoot grey paint. Its not worth it. Many servers dont allow it because some people cant see it. B- Never use the smart parts jersey (model 2) because when you lean out, the other team cant see you. I know, I know, you think that is a good thing. Wrong. Many, and most servers will kick/ban you if you are using it.

Many skills that apply in real paintball apply here. Such skills as, snapshooting, laning, sweetspotting, pinning, and knowing the field will help you on your way to being the next .tnb. Random (for those of you who have never played him, he is amazing).

Snap shooting: Try to find a field that is empty occasionally, and practice snapshooting. Pick a bunker to play out of, and change your targets after about 15 shots. Work on shooting faster, and staying out shorter, and you will get better. Some people can be in and out in < 1 second. All it takes it one or two balls to make them have to duck back in, and then you can move. Some people prefer to take about 10 shots, while some only take one. If you take 10, you will have a better chance at hitting them, but a worse chance of staying in the game.

Laning: Unlike in real paintball, when you are laning you have to judge distance. On most Xball fields you dont need to aim very high. But on a field like Hyperball Classic, most people cant lane at all because the field is so large. However, just like in real paintball, the faster the better. The more balls in the air, the better your chances aer of hitting someone.

Sweetspotting: If you see someone on the move, shoot infront of them. It kills me everytime i see someone shooting where they are at the time and they just follow them. WRONG. Shoot a little ahead so they have to change thier path, or just get out.

Knowing the field: As you play more and more judging distance wont be as much of a problem, but always know your fields. Try to find empty fields sometimes and you can practice by yourself. Then do a few 1 v 1's once someone joins. The better you know popular maps, the better off you are.

Oneballing: Ahh, my favorite part. Many notice how hard it is to accuratly shoot while running/walking. My advice: Aim a little low and shoot very fast. I have gotten countless people doing this, and afterwards all they can say is "Lucky". All i can say is "Pwn't". While bunkering, make sure to shoot at them incase they pop out.

Bunkering: Not much to say here besides this. Shoot, shoot, shoot. On your way there, try and keep them pinned as best you can. Once you are kind of close, walk, that way they dont hear your footsteps.

Picking your guns: The ratings they give the guns on the menu is crap. I am going to re-rate them on a scale of 1-10, and a smily scale. If i left it out, i dont use it... ever.

Angel: Speed- 7.5/10 Smile Smile Smile
Accuracy- 7.5/10

Excal- Speed- 10/10 Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Accuracy- 9.5/10

Bushmaster- Speed- 5/10 Sad Sad
Accuracy- 5/10

Orracle- Speed- 3.5/10 Smile Smile Smile (excellent for snapping)
Accuracy- 10/10

Emag- Speed- 8.5/10 Smile Smile Smile
Accuracy- 8/10

Timmy- Speed- 10/10 Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy (i still dont really like it)
Accuracy- 8/10

Matrix- Speed-9.5/10 Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy (My favorit gun to use)
Accuracy- 10/10

Phantom- Speed- 1/10 Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy (slow, but amazingly fun to pwn/bunker timmies)
Accuracy- 10/10

Thats about it.

Wrote it at another forum ages ago. So here it is.
