Unless DJs start producing ****ty, basic tracks and release them as musical gold a la Mt. Eden, we won't have much to worry about. Most DJs try really hard to be technical, so I'm not worried about it being washed up. It's not like Warped Tour where every **** band can attempt to play on a stage or whatever by winning a contest. And it's not like DJing is as easy as playing in a band. Any band can book a pay-and-play gig at a venue like the Whiskey or the Roxxy, but you have to really try hard to get a gig at a club regularly, and you have to be able to fill that club up to move from their worst days like a Monday to their best days like a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

Around me the new thing for all the ex metalcore band scene kids is dubstep. They really enjoy producing trash "dubstep tracks". It's incredibly annoying. Damn you MacBooks!

Ignore them. The great thing about EDM is that you cant just "book a gig" if you suck. No one will book you. You actually have to be good. So they're stuck with house parties and playing for friends, where as the ones who are noticed and can actually fill clubs will get their notoriety.

not really. you dont have to be good, you just have to be able to pull in large crowds.

example- steve aoki, kid cudi, david guetta, harvard bass(good example as to you don't need to be good to be booked, you just have to be able to do basic mixing)
