Dawkins is a good scientist/professor but a crappy philosopher.

Yeah, I enjoyed the last few pages of that book so much it made me want to read something from him that about a scientific subject.

Any of you read his latest book?

Yeah my mom asked me if it was going to change me into a heathen when I told her about it. Anytime my grandma was around when I had the book out I made sure to keep the cover out of sight. Her seeing the book would probably give her a heart attack.

I had an incident like that when my grandfather was visiting and saw The Communist Manifesto on my desk. I had to explain that I wasn't a marxist but was reading it just so I could say I had.

To describe it in two words; it's true.

Old thread, I know, but if you haven't read it yet, pick up God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens. I enjoy Hitchens' insights and intellect over anything Dawkins.

After I finish up some of the Isaac Asimov books my father gave to me, I'm going to reading Sam Harris' The Moral Landscape. Heard great things about that as well.

Hitchens, Dawkins, Shermer, Harris, all good reads if you're into the subject

hahah these moments are funny, old people are funny about their ways. this is like the time when I went off to college and my mom found my portable atheist book behind my bed. lol your family might make you feel like its banned literature.

a friend of mine actually bought the end of faith for my birthday some years ago but I never got to it, let me know how it is.

It was good. His views approach the topic of religion from the standpoint of human nature. He writes more eloquently than Dawkins. Overall a good read.
