ASVAB Scoring / Different branches?

I know, another question about the asvab..

I got a 78 on my GT score for the air force..and that puts me in the qualifying for all the jobs I've been looking at, considering the requirement is a 60 GT for most of them.

But my question is..do different branches of the military grade the ASVAB differently? I'm asking because I did a little research on what it takes to become a helicopter pilot in the army, and one of the requirements was a 110 GT score. Which seems unrealistically high considering my 78 according to the air force.

Could somebody shed some light, or did I really just do that bad on my ASVAB?

Yes, I don't know how they stack up though. I just found this out the other day. I can almost guarantee that if you qualify for everything in the AF you do in the Army as well.

i dont know the term for the score needed, but you need a 110 to qualify for everything in the army. the way scores are calculated are different for each branch. look at the paper you were given at meps that has your line scores, all branches are different.

haven't gone to meps yet, but if I go to an army recruiter with my AF scores, will he be able to tell me what I get according to the army?..would really like to see my chances on getting a pilot slot in the army, considering I know I'd pass all the physicals.

They should be able to take your raw scores and convert them into army scores, or more likely they just look it yp and the computer tells them. When I took the asvab I did it just for the army, but the score sheet they gave me had the line scores for all 3 branches as well as my raw scores and afqt score.

Ah, yeah..I don't have that sheet. It took about a week after I took my test for my recruiter to get my scores for some reason, so she just told me on the phone my particular ones for the AF. Anyway thanks I appreciate the answers.

Anyone have some firsthand knowledge about aviation in the army that I wont be able to google? I saw that you have to pass a first class flight phsyical, which I did about a year ago. And I'm close to getting my private pilots license, I know that doesn't mean ****, but would it help in any way?

Again, thanks for all the responses

I remember scoring 117, and asking for infantry. I was a dumb ****. I should have picked something with a civilian equivilant.

and 3 years in a combat MOS will put you above the rest when it comes to jobs that require you carry a gun.

3 years in a combat mos is getting pretty common these days.

It isn't as rare as it was. Kind of how higher education isn't as much of an investment as it was 10 or so years ago.

Doesn't negate the fact it's still preferred over every other MOS.

asvab and gt are 2 different scores if i remember right.

you have the total asvab score (AFQT) which maxes out @ 99 i think, then a bunch of line scores to show how proficient you are in different areas; like math, science, mechanical, electrical, etc.

idk about other branches but in the Navy you had to meet a certain AFQT score AND/OR line scores for all jobs, but the technical ones were the ones that mattered.

Its prefured by those who know what the diffrence between 11B and (insert poge MOS). Most jobs Ive applied for do not know or care what the diffrence is. Its unfortunate that so many civilians are ignorent.
