OS not booting

hey everyone, just seeing if i can get a quick bit of help.

Turned on my computer today and found that it just went to a black screen. turned it completely off a couple times and repeated, to the same results every time. I have an asus g50vt with windows vista. Luckily asus installs their expressgate os as well, so i can get on the internet, but it still bothers me that vista wont boot. anyone had this happen or can point me in a direction to fix this?

thanks in advance

Go into the bios and check the boot order, and make sure your harddrive is found.

Had the exact same computer and the exact same problem. I took mine into where I bought it and it was replaced by Asus under their warranty.

Just wondering, are your fans spinning or does it make noise when you press keys?

EDIT: When trying to boot to the OS, does it just stick on the Republic of Gamers screen?

can you boot into safe mode?? if you can it might be a damaged driver or program like your anti virus.

If he can't get into the OS, he shouldn't be able to get into safe mode. (I think?)

Unfortunately the Vista black screens are common and difficult to pinpoint. This issue is brought in for service all the time at work. Most of the causes are from a recent Windows update or recent software change. There are a few things you try to get into windows.

Spamming F8 will give you a few simple and basic option to try.

Try:

Start up repair
Last Known good Configuration
Low VGA Mode
Safe Mode, if you can get in load a previous restore point, or if you just recently installed a program remove it.

Also at the black screen with cursor try hitting shift 5 times, this may get sticky keys option to pop up. If it does you can start task manager to run and launch explorer.exe

Good Luck.
