Tippmann 98 front vertical grip

Has anyone just plain cut off the front grip? I mean removed the plastic end piece and cut off the metal part. I had this crazy idea of cutting that piece off and attaching a weaver rail (using a similiar mount method as the stock 98c bottomline).

I've cut 10 or 15 off.

Try to add a body bolt above the cut off area. Two team guns with
body screw added after in pics.
Two different locations for bolt. 1st pic. is better location.

Yup that's what I am talking about. I think it will give the gun a cleaner look with the add on goodies I have planned for it. Thanks for the pics and the tip on the body bolt! Did you just use extra factory bolts?

Yes, drill a small hole right through the gun. Drill the left side only, large enough for a body screw to pass through.
Drill the same hole just a little bit, but with a drill the size of the screw head.
Tap the other shell 10-32.
You'll need to use the right bits to make it clean and the right size to tap.

Make sure you don't hit the ball detent

I have always wondered where I would put the extra screw to do this. Those pics have helped me out.

Now if only I had a drill press.

Not mine, it was a pic I found of one locally awhile back. Sounds like what you wanted to do.

I kind of like that. IMO, the Platinum's should have lost the front grip in favour of a rail like that one WB.

Here's mine, I rounded the whole front end and plugged it up with JB weld, thats another option.

Edit: Note the sloppy nut and bolt running through the front end. I would definitely recommend what The Tinman did, looks much cleaner.

Yup that is what I have in mind. Wonder what brand rail that is?

Hey tinman, how do you put a centerfeed on a platinum gun? Do you just pull of the ris pieces and go from their the same as a reg 98c, or is there special milling that needs to be done?

I have to mill a small amount of the material off.
There is a 'U' shaped area on the right side if you look at it.
This is the same level or height as a standard 98 Custom.
I just machine the left until it meets the right.
But yes the rail comes off. You can shorten it and put it back on,
but that was a tourny gun, so the less sharp edges the better.

A short video showing the prep

oh my god your guns are beautiful. Yes you can cut off the grip, but if you don't want to make a "permanent modification" you can get a Tacamo body kit and use it in hopper mode.

Hey Tinman nice mods, have you ever considered the APE magnetic trigger for the 98's and A-5, I know APE made them for a while but I don't know if they are still hanging around, I had on on mine a long time ago and it ran circles around those TechT triggers
