I might be able to do that for you. I don't plan on adding an option for users to hide/show things since it's a pain, but if you want to take matters into your own hands...

that **** at the top, make it optional, cause i hate it up there, and i'm sure many others do as well, but that doesn't mean everyone will. so i'd say making it optional is the better path

Personally I'm already sick of having to do a full page down each time I load a new page. It takes up too much space at the top for my liking. I don't want to have to scroll down to see the first post of a thread. This is forums, where the emphasis is Threads. If I want to see the news then I'll go to the news forum, that's why it's there. If you really want everyone to see the ad an news section, do it as a side-bar over where the 'skyscraper' advertisement previously was, and set it up like "Last Post" column in the Subscribed Forums list in the UserCP. This was it doesn't push the forums down further and you still have the general layout from before.

The top of the page is just way too busy now and really irritating on the eyes.

It looks fine to me. To all who complain about the big add at top left, that's one way to keep this place free of charge. I won't miss the add on the right at all and appreciate the new real estate for us to make posts. The PBNation News and Community Focus are both cool.
