Velosity/Pressure and How is FPS measured?

Hers a couple of questions.
I'm brand new and picked up a very used all stock Tippmann A-5 setup and its slower and a lot more sloppy than another all stock A-5 and several 98's I've tried out. I see people saying there getting 200-300+ FPS, how are they measuring this and how do I adjust the pressure/velocity to its maximum without going too much? also how can I tell that I have just enough pressure/velocity without breaking balls.

thanks
Woods

well its measured with a machine, chronograph. any field you go to will have a fps limit, so just set it to that.

You need to chrono you're gun at a local field, and set it to whatever they enforce.

BTW- Its Velocity

To adjust vlocity on a5s I believe there is a screw on the right hand aide if the marker body. Use an Allen wrench to adjust it. Out is higher dos in is lower. Don't mess with I unless you are near a chronology so you can make sure you aren't shooting hot.

Thanks, I'll find a local field or shop. I have only played 4 times in a woods setup (or woodsball I think its called) with a group of guys who play casually so I haven’t been to an organized field yet.

There are also some fairly cheap hand-held chronographs, they probably cost about $40-60. It's possible someone you're playing with has one, ask around.

Also make sure you adjust the volocity each day you come to the field as volocity changes based on tank temperature, humidity and so on.If you have a c02 tank it would be a good idea to adjust it like once every 2 hours or so because c02 is very sensitive to temperature.

you should watch mythbusters and when they make air cannons. To help you out all markers have an op (operational pressure to fire) the op on some markers is higher then others. blowbacks (markers that use a hammer and spring combo) spyder/tippy/pmi fish need about 500 psi to cycle the bolt/hammer. markers with e-frames that have noids run from 120-60 psi depending on what the vendor sets as the input psi and the noid they use. the fps or feet per second (280-300) can be reached in two ways. (a lot of air at low psi or a little air at higher psi.) the trick is there is a formula that take the area of the marker (fire chamber and barrel) and will toss out number. you see that on mythbuster when they want to shot a feather or an iteam at a set speed or force by the amount or the time the valve is open (dwell).

on stuff for the marker look in the a-5 section to see if there are any weak points that would need to be fixed. if i was looking at this as myself i would pick up some marker oil and extra o-rings a sear and hammer and a spring kit. need to lube the marker/someone at your table is always going to pop a c02 o-ring and vent there tank or scare the crap out of you. (same goes if your using plastic air line on a hot day.) sear and hammer is just for a back up if your playing in a big game and if one of them wears out. (both parts should last you a few years) most sears you can grind them down if you have the time and fix them. the spring kit is so you dont have to cut a spring on a hot day to get your marker to shoot under 300 fps. (never want to over/under crank the main spring. #1 noobe mistake is under cranking and having the adjuster fall off during a game) (good luck finding small parts in the woods).

new set up i would be looking for a good anti fog mask some soft mask wipes that wont eat the lens. a barrel condom (attached to your feedneck of your marker or on the grip frame so it wont fall off during a game. a good barrel sqeegie (on your leg or folds up and can be placed in a vest.) a good vest or pod belt with a water blater. (hot days and cramps from lake of water not fun.)
old t-shirts and some bdu pants from your local army store or if you want some more protection a good set of slider shorts or pants. lose pants and nuts shots dont hurt that bad but putting a nee down on a rock is not fun or having your nees swell up from a long game is not fun.

Just get one make especially made for paintball (tippman etc.) and you won't have to worry about it.

Anywhere from 450psi to 850psi(with hpa tank) 900psi+ with CO2.

If your using CO2 get a steel breaded line, macrolines dont last long with CO2..

If your using HPA, all lines are rated for 1500psi+ so theres no worries there.

That'd be shipping from one coast to the other.

http://www.pbreview.com/fields/22/ That's a list of fields in Maryland, most likely one of them near you also has a pro-shop.
