Same for me on grease... But I never used oil before in my spoolies, so I don't know if it would get blown out quicker so will need to oil during a long day of play, or if oil will get shot out to my barrel if I oil too much, or if my orings will wear out quicker... Etc

some will swear by oil, while others will say stick with what the manufacturer instructed...

Meh... I had mine at 10.5 easy with grease.... So I don't see it as a huge plus.

Don't get in to the habit of dry firing your Geo - it's not good for it, and Planet recommend that you not do it.

If we're just talking a few cycles here and there, probably not much to worry about it, but not something you want to do continuously (you know the guys who say that they dry fire five tanks of air through a new marker so that it is broken in before the actually play with it? Don't be those guys).

wafflezzz that's really a bad thing.. you could get your prop shaft broken... specially if you tuned it while overbored.

by the way a good geo should do around 1 pod per 500 psi on a 68/4500... don't expect much more...

What would happen to the gun if one would do so? Are these guns so prone/sensitive to breaking? I remember I used to dry fire my SFTs, DM5 and other pre 2k5 guns with no problem other than wearing down the detents.

Fact is that it isn't really good to dry fire any marker excessively.

The simple act of moving the ball and pushing the ball through the detents will slow the bolt just a little. That will reduce impact on the front bump. Without that reduction in bolt speed, your bumper could wear out prematurely, and if - as in the example above - you are just running tank after tank of air through the marker to break it in, you could end up firing the marker without a bumper. That's going to lead to the bolt moving further forwards than it should, possibly hitting the end of the barrel and causing issues there. You are going to have metal to metal contact between the bolt and the bolt stop - metal to metal contact can't be good.

In the case of a poppet valve marker, if the rammer bumper goes, the bolt pin might start hitting the end of the slot it runs in, and that could in turn lead to issues with the rammer tip. If the rammer tip bent, you could start jacking up the inside of the rammer chamber.

There are probably other things, and no doubt Jack could give you a better explanation (and in the past, he has posted about it himself) but hopefully the above gives you at least a vague idea of why dry firing isn't recommended.

Maybe the high cycle speeds - and in the case of the Egos/Eteks, the relatively high LPR pressures - accentuate the problem, but this can be an issue with any semi marker, not just Planet Eclipse markers.

But people would stilL continue to ignore all these advises and dry fire tanks after tanks

I would think dryfiring the GST wouldn't be that bad. Poppet markers like the EGO seems to fare worse dryfiring than spools, and the GST lowers shifting momentum significantly.
