Slow internet when multiple PC's being used?

We have a P.C. in the living room that my mom usually uses, I have one in my room, my brother in his and my dad uses his laptop. Every time my mom hops on the computer she starts uploading pictures and plays like 90 different facebook games at the same time, and it slows my computer down (I just use a wireless usb adapter).

Is there any way to keep my computer from getting slower when she's using the intrawebs on her pc? Would buying a nicer wireless router help?

Seriously?

When she's playing these games or watching Hulu or anything that downloads, it's going to slow the internet down for other users.

You can get dual band routers and adapters, but I don't personally have experience with them.

Here's a cheaper dual band router.

It's not just a little slow though, I mean it literally makes things so slow I'd rather not use the internet. Pages take so long to load they time out, can't watch videos because it would take forever to load them etc..

better internet connection, or get on the router and throttle the connection to that computer, then play dumb when she asks why it's slow. might have to pay off the ISP tech to keep it on the DL.

That "No" comes with fine print. If your wireless router allows you to tweak the Quality of Service (QoS) settings, you can throttle the bandwidth to individual clients and ensure more service to those who might be getting squeezed out.

Not blazing fast, but everything still moves pretty quickly. I don't actually have to wait for a page to load to or anything when it's just me.

It's just weird, because all of a sudden my **** just stops moving the second she starts uploading pictures. I haven't noticed any problems with my speed when other people in the house are on the P.C. though, but their stuff slows down when she starts uploading pics too.

That's pretty typical for home connections - a high download rate is advertised, but it's paired with a crippled upload rate.

Damn, oh well. I'll check into the qos thing aforementioned, if that's not an option than I'll just go ahead and do what I usually do (change the password to get into our wireless network) for a few minutes whenever I've got homework or whatever to do.

Thanks for the quick responses you guys!

plushdragon helped look for balloons
also on the up and up on her pc run ccleaner and malware bytes and a good anti virus sweep and see what loading at start up like limewire or turrents software. they can suck up a lot of bandwith even if there not doing downloads.
also help your mom by picking up some imaging or batch software that will upload her image to her web page. if she ftp one image at a time and leaves the ftp service running it going to take up bandwith. a lot of programs like comcast from google do batch uploads to web pages.
