Battle for Stalingrad 4
Our 43rd Scenario Game
Sunday, January 31, 2010
(the week before Super Bowl XLIV)
This Event Will Take Place At Our CHESAPEAKE CITY
For the fourth straight year, Outdoor Adventures Scenario Productions presents its popular winter event, a recreation of one of the most famous battles of World War II. Last year more than 400 players attended! Using our extremely successful and simplified format, there will be tanks, pyrotechnics, smoke, artillery, paint grenades, multiple missions and props, along with Generals, Commanders, Engineers, and Medics.
This is a great event for everyone from beginners to experienced scenario players.
More than $2,000 in total prizes will be drawn and awarded all day long, starting at the beginning of the safety briefing.
The Battle of Stalingrad was a major turning point of World War II and is considered one of the bloodiest battles in history, with an estimated two million casualties in 199 days.
On June 22, 1941, Germany invaded the Soviet Union and quickly advanced deep into Soviet territory. After suffering defeat and huge losses through the summer and fall, Soviet forces counter-attacked in December from their last-ditch lines around Moscow. The German Army, ill prepared for winter and short on supplies, was driven back, but by spring 1942 the Germans had stabilized their front and prepared to attack in a different direction. Their new target – the city of Stalingrad!
The Battle of Stalingrad began with a heavy bombing of the city by aircraft of the German Luftwaffe. Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin prevented the women and children of Stalingrad from leaving their city and forced them to assist with building defenses, using civilians as human shields against enemy bombardment. The city and the surrounding countryside quickly fell into ruins as the German forces pressed forward with artillery, armor and infantry.
The Soviet defenders held, but just barely. The German attackers were bled white in their efforts to seize most of the city. Then in November a major Soviet winter counter-offensive broke through both flanks and surrounded the German 6th Army. By February 1943 the Germans were forced to surrender and the Soviet Red Army launched a relentless series of attacks that only ended when it captured Berlin in 1945.
Will the Soviet forces of Generals Zhukov and Chuikov prevail? Can the Soviet counter-attack turn the tide of battle? Will German Field Marshal Paulus drive the Red Army from Stalin's city? It is time for you to join the fight! Pick a side and maybe change history. Every soldier counts in this epic battle!
