Differences between the 08 and 09?
Hello nation, I am looking at getting an independence, and was reading here that there were some big changes from the 2008 independence and 2009 version. What are they and is the 08 version able to be upgraded with parts to shoot as smooth as everyone says the 09 version does?

The 08 and 09 are a lot different. The whole ram assembley is different for lower pressure operation and less kick, the LPR hoses are different, the regs are different, the feedneck is different.
You'll never be able to upgrade the 08 to be quite as smooth as the 09 due to the different mechanics(though it's probably close). If you can afford the 09, that's the way to go for sure. It's just a better build all around.

Well the one I am looking at is described like this: All possible 09 ups, including milled frames *you get the 85 & 45 degree frames and grips), SMC Noid, New 09 ram, 09 ram housing, hybrid on off custom milled for gun, and Carbon Fiber barrel system with 3 backs and a carbon front. It also has a brand new Empire Reg in nickle ($80 new reg).
Would this be pretty close? Would the LPR hosing still be different or is that incorporated into the ram?

Ya some stuff isn't going to be the same, but it sounds like that 08 has as much as can be done.

No - the hose sizes are different, the ram is different - '09 is smoother. Plus the tolerances on the '09 are better so the LPR can be lower.
Most really like their '08's but the difference between '08 and '09 are bigger than the difference between the Interceptor and the Remains - or - between the Remains and the "08 Independence

If he has the new 09 ram and new 09 SMC noid on the 08 what big differences would there be? Wouldn't the new hosing be incorporated with those 09 parts so it would have the bigger hosing right?

I think that what Jack is hinting at is the seller may be lying about some of the features he upgraded.

I see, or possibly missed my other post? If that was what you were getting at Jack give me a wink at the end of your next post haha. But if he is telling the truth, and does have all those parts?

I think the confusion about the ram is that the 08 will have the retrofitted ram for the SMC noid in it. Original 08's had a mac noid so different air ports were needed for the SMC noid. It's not however the same configuration as the actual 09 version ram. It's just an 08 ram converted for the new noid.
So it has the most up to date ram for an 08............but it's still not the same as the 09. There are still differences. The biggest being the actual rammer shape, the fact that's it's removable from the rear of the gun and the integrated delrin bumpers.

The '09 Ram will not fit on the 08 grip frame - only the solenoid is the same. The '08 has the hammer, cap keeper rod and piston -that all load from the front and it useds cocker hose. '09 has one pice Rammer (Ram and Hammer)load out the back and uses quick release fitting.
Edit:; just read MasterKey - so I resaid what he said ...

Ah, I understand now, thanks for the heads up, that guy is full of it then I am just looking to get an 08 to try it out before I make the jump to one of the 09's or higher because the price jumps a bit.

as jack has said before, the 08's have been known to be finky. but as long as you just do simple maintenance (bolt, chamber, reg, putting just a bit of oil in the ram) and dont take the gun apart, you should be great. I love my 08 Indy, i want another one, but 09-10. you wont be disappointed in either year, altho i do suggest seeing if you can jump on an 09
