The only thing I was thinking is, do you think there is enough surface area for that threaded insert to grab onto? I would hate to see you put in all this effort just to have that piece blow out when being air'd up..

other than that I don't see any real problems.

yeah, if you look at the outside of the insert you'll see I put a few ridges into it to increasd the surface area as well as allow the fiber to sink into it giving the carbon a biting action. if that makes any sence...

I would have made one deeper, but the insert is so thin as it is right now, any more and I would go right into the threads.

You aren't worried about barrels that are threaded poorly breaching the wall of your threading?

no, the insert I was talking about is for the bolt guide not the barrel.

Update time!!

So I got the carbon in today:

i even got started on the body today. first thing first, prep the mold with release wax. very important!

first fabric on was the kevlar. this is the only place kevlar will be used. I was reluctant to do this as i'll need to machine the SFT oring groove, and machine kevlar SUCKSSS. small amounts of spray adhesive were used to hold all the layers down.

after 5 layers of carbon:

Getting ready to infuse. The green material is an elastic plastic that hold the vacuum and pulls all the layers together while the resin is infusing.

here's my infusion set-up. the plastic tube on the right hand side goes into a pot of resin, the vacuum pump then creates a pressure differential that pulls the resin into every little crevice.

Here we are about 5 min into the infusion. the dark line near the bottom is the resin being infused.

About 30 min into the infusion:

that's all I got so far. resin should be cured enough to pull out of the bagging in a few hours.

i could, but I'd prefer not to as the oring would have to traval past the feedneck opening and back for every cycle. seems like the oring would likely to get pinched and sheared.

Yeah, I'll probably take you up on the offer. I just need to figure out what I want to use.

Well I probably won't be taking the body out of the bagging until tomorrow morning, so I should have some good (or bad) photos then. Hopefully the infusion took through all the layers of carbon. I'll know tomorrow, and so will all of you!
