but truthfully separating people isnt that difficult. if you want to play with your group thats fine, but, i assume, that when it becomes a problem is when your group combines with another rental group and that group complains about you. some newer players are whiny as ****, and they always will be, same goes for tourny players, some are complete *******s who overshoot everyone that walks onto the field. you have to count on the refs decisions, theyre the ones watching the games and in close interactions with the players, they can tell who is better and how to make the game more fun for certain people. there is no "equation" to make paintball more fun, theres only responsible staff making reasonable decisions about the environment.

now what i want to know is... with paint at that price what is to keep every new player who walks onto the field from running up to one another and shooting point blank so they dont waste balls? sure fields have 10 ft rules but how many newer players realize in the middle of a game how far 10 feet really is?

o and yankee, if you have three fields you should have at least 3 reffs employed and reffing those fields regardless of who is playing. new players need constructive critisism and a watchful eye just as much as everyone else
I have 6 fields and run multiple refs per field. I'm not going to run a ref on 6 guys unless they have reserved a private party.

Exactly! With a low volume/higher paint price field, it eliminates most of the problems. That's why I would never choose to operate a low price field, cause it just creates too many problems that need to be dealt with. That causes more headaches for the operator and more frustration for the operator, refs, and players.

I have no problem if field operators want to offer low price paint options to their customers. It's just way more hassle and in the end means less overall player count and probably less profit.

Stop and listen. You've already been told several examples by people who actually run fields why it IS difficult. You can't separate a group of 5-6 friends of different skill levels without ruining their good time, but if you keep them together with others then it ruins their good time, and if you let them play as 3 on 3 then again they don't have as much fun AND you can't afford to staff one ref per 6 players anyway.

Splitting by experience is not a solution.

I'm amazed at the non-field owners / operators who know far more about running a field (or business in generaL) than those who have successfully done so. While input is useful, make sure to understand the weight of those on the other side, especially when those on the other side have successful experience.

I did this for two years at a local field with 99% customer satisfaction. I don't know who you're talking to but they're doing it wrong.

How do you know you had 99% customer satisfaction?

Is it possible you just made that up?

Two years of customer service surveys done at the shop after their day. Of course, not every one filled one out, but the ones who did had positive feed back the very large majority of the time.

I never had anyone leave unhappy that I can remember... except maybe people who got into a fight or something of the sort.
