Conflicting Info: Gun Maintenance - Oil on Oring or not?
I've read several articles that say put oil everywhere (very clear ), and some say never put it on the orings because it wears them down. What's the truth?
What should I be putting oil on specifically?

oiling orings swells them which provides a better seal

it really depends on what kinda marker it is also oil is generally ok on o rings as he stated it causes them to swell which helps with the seal but ive also heard that if you should put dow 33 or 55 on the bolt o rings on spoolies

DOW 33 - Does not swell
DOW 55 - Swells
The point of lubing is not necessary to swell the o-rings, its to create a better seal and make it easier for the orings to slide without becoming damaged. You use dow55 on NON-moving parts of your gun, like the regulator. You lube with 33 on moving parts like the bolt.
Buy a small thing of DOW 33, it will do everything you need it to. Never had to use dow55, and in reality o-rings get damaged over time so lube doesn't solve everything.

Spool valve guns are usually OK with 33. Intimidators are designed for 55. Right in the manual, Tippmanns are intended to be lubed with just oil. Really depends what marker.
It is true that some oils will eat away at o-rings. If the manual says to use a specific type of oil for a particular gun, you can usually assume that the type of oil they recommend is safe for the type of o-rings employed in that marker.

It is heavily dependent on the gun and which o-ring. Some guns require certain types of lubricants on different parts. You'll need to be more specific to get the answer you need. What gun do you have and what o-ring are you talking about?

Use oil on Tippmanns and like Dye Lube or Hatersauce on everything else. It's never failed me.

With PE you can oil the HPR and LPR so you dont have to carry 2 different kinds of lube..
And never put Dow55 or a Dow55 based lube on a regulator. The piston DOES move!

So next time please keep your advice to spoolies. Giving advice on something you have little to no experience with can cause expensive mistakes to be made regardless of your good intentions.

really depends on your marker and where to oring is. for example its not good to put oil on the poppet oring on my mini because the oil can collect dirt and crap which makes for a non effective seal

Again, to re-iterate what I said before, consult your documentation, and do what it says.
For example, to debunk the statement above, check the documentation for one of the most popular regs out there:
http://www.customproducts.us/downloads.html
CP reg maintenance guide specifies Dow 33 OR 55. If you look in the pictures, you can see that they actually opted for 55. Also, Bob Long stock regulators are all designed to use 55.

well yes its a popit but its like a spool so if you know spools and no one told you it was a popit you would just treat it like a spool,if that makes sense

intimidators arent like spools, they are like an ego. its what the ego was based on. more than likely people would treat it like any other poppit and put oil on it. marqs are similar to spools, but yes they are still poppits. either way its dow 55 for any bob long gun.
