I often see more experienced players do a walkthrough of the speedball field before games. What are they looking for besides lanes? Is it just a matter of knowing your field of vision from each bunker?

Is there other pregame preparation that one should do for recreational speedball? Obviously team organization helps, but more as an individual...

They go out to learn the layout of the field to see where the good are from the different bunkers and to see which bunkers to avoid.

They are basically studying for a test before the big exam.

As far as pregame preparation... Make sure your gun and hopper have fresh batteries and/or are charged... and make sure you fill your tank too (AND make sure everything is turned on and tank on/off screwed in).

Where's the ground soft and hard. How's the traction. What angles have you got and have they got on you. Where are some nice ghosting spots. Where you can go without limiting your options.

Snake and dorito side are key to knowing what angles you have.

Also they look for holes. In the snake side there may be a hole that other teams can shoot you through in the bottom corner when your not popping out. In between bunkers to. Mainly it is to see what they can see from each bunker, see what they are protected from and where they are weak. Check angles to the opposing bunkers.

As far as recreational speedball, the best thing you can do is plan out your moves. Paintball is like chess, it's not necessarily the first move you should focus on, it's the second and third.

all above points are good i also walk the field before a game to get myself into the "zone" or vamp myself up, and look for my angles and my plan of attack for the first game or second or third depending on how the others went...

i play back/mid so i look for pinch points of my opponents, where i can get the most effective lanes, what bunkers i can try to 'force' my opponents into, what spots to avoid, how crucial the snake is and stuff like that

i play the corners. so i usually walk the field like as if i was my opponent so ill walk the snake and dorito side.

We are just trying to learn the field and get a mental battle strategy going on incase something goes wrong.

As an individual I like to check my batteries and make sure everything is working. Also if you know who you are playing against and what their tenancies are then you can tailor your game to play against them. IE: My friend is on the other team and I know he's a hard dorito player. I lane dorito where i know he's going to go.
