Why do eclipses have that hump in the hood? I've never looked at the engine on an eclipse before. I know its probably to clear something just not sure what.

I'm not sure but I think it's for the turbo.

acually i think the hump is for the timing belt cover that sticks up.

A co-worker has an RS, which doesn't have the turbo, and it still has the hump.

Acutually the humps are probally just for looks. You dont have a hood scoop, and the turbo will fit inplace without being raised that much.

Wrong, It is for the timing belt cover.
*EDIT* i just looked under the hood and infact the timing belt cover does stick up higher than the engine about an inch or 2 along with some tubing that runs next to it. So i guess they felt that they should raise that part for extra room. Also the turbo is mounted much lower than the hood.

hmm the timing belt cover is on the right side of the motor only on the 4g63 motors and 1.8's in the v1 eclipse the 98 eclipses the timing belt cover is on the left but still a hump on the right theres nothing there that it needs to clear i think its just for looks myself
