Shooting Distance
I let my buddy use my mini for a couple of games and he said that it didn't shoot as far has his ion. We chrono'd both our guns to 285 fps. We are using the same paint and the same barrel (dye ul). Does anyone else heard of this issue? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

No I have not heard of this issue. If both paintballs leave at the same velocity, with the same mass, and in the same conditions they will travel around the same distance. Are you sure your friend is correct about your mini?
He could have not been used to shooting the mini, and simply aimed too low. Also was he shooting both guns uncapped full auto? If not how would he know which one was faster? The mini doesn't shoot to it's maximum cycling rate from the factory.

your chrono speed tells you exactly how far you both were shooting, hence the "fps"

Both guns were set on Semi. I think you're right on him not being used to the mini and aiming too low. Ill try and shoot both guns side by side and see if there is a huge difference in the distance.
Thanks for the input

i play with a guy that owns an Ion and two old school Intimidators. After playing against my mini with all of those guns, and shooting it a few times, he is most likely going to get one as his next gun. It's just jealousy taken down with a nice tall glass of haterade.

There is no way for your friend to know if your mini doesn't shoot as far without the guns being compared side to side, firing at the exact same angle relative to the ground.

The ion and the mini do not shoot the same, hence why he thought it did not shoot as far. Shoot a cocker and a mini side to side with the same chrono and you'll see exactly what i am talking about.

You must be referring to that new physics I keep hearing about.
So you are saying that a mini and a cocker side by side shooting the exact same paint with the same barrels at the same fps. That the cocker shoots... faster? further? darts?
I just want to be sure.
I got news for you. Once the ball leaves the barrel it doesn't know what gun just shot it.

What I think he means by this is that they way they shoot makes it "feel" like its shooting different, not that they acctually do. As in more kick might make it feel as though the ball is traveling farther or leaving at a faster rate.
At least I hope he does.

Absolutely true. A ball moving at 300fps will move as far as something else moving at that same speed until other factors act upon it. (I believe that's Newton's first law)

Basic physics. Distance traveled is equal to rate multiplied by time.
D = v * t. Notice how the only factors in the equation are velocity and time. It doesn't matter what each marker is shooting, if both objects are being fired at 285 feet per second, they will both travel the same distance if they are fired identically in regards to elevation/conditions. (I know there are other factors like wind resistance, etc, but for all practical purposes this is how it works).

To clarify what i said. I don't literally mean the ball goes farther, it just feels different. hence why someone would think it might go farther. i understand that once the paintball leaves the barrel at x fps, as long as the other gun is set up exactly the ball will go the exact same distance.

Point noted. Hooray for science.
