Woodsball to Tourneyball

So, I used to play woodsball, for around 5 years now. I'm now getting sick and fed up with playing with 10 year olds with rentals and having slowww, long games. I played woodsball for realisim, but since I now play airsoft as well, realisim dosen't matter in paintball. So, I want to play Speedball.

I have an ION XE with a new feedneck, Eggy 3, and 68 4500 DXS tank. What should I upgrade to get up to tourney standards?

Essentialy, what do I need to do to make the switch from Woodsball to Speedball?

Thanks Gent's.

you should be fine at first with what you have
if you dont have a really good mask, buy one
get a smaller profile loader...and one that is easier to fill without ghetto rigging it
pants
if you really are feeling froggy then get a new gun

suggestions
hopper: halo, empire, rotor
gun: proto, dye, eclipse
pants/jersey: JT, proto, dye, eclipse
pack: nxe, proto
mask: jt, proto, dye, vforce

these are all suggestions. only get them if u need and if u can afford them. u may find urself wanting some of these after a few months and/or tournaments u want some of them. all of those companies are my personal preferences for gear but u can choose wut u like

I would definitely upgrade the trigger on your ion, CPs are the best IMO. Ions are great speedball guns, you can upgrade literally every single part of them but it's not needed, you should be fine with a new trigger and barrel, board if you're ready to start playing tournaments.

Your gear will do fine, don't upgrade based on what people here have for opinions... go out an use that cash to PLAY paintball at multiple speedball fields nearby you. Once you've played a while, and seen multiple other markers, loaders, masks, etc... then go and buy what you know you want, not what some other guy might want.

Thanks guys. I know the importance of personal preference when it comes to new gear, but I'm new to the world of electrics, so I was hoping to get ideas of what I should be looking out for. And as for money to play, luckily, I will soon start up as a ref at my local field, so I get to play for free .

You have five years of perfectly good experience under your belt, so I'm pretty sure you have a good idea of what a good gun should feel like.

In general, a good speedball gun should be/have:

-light
-easy to maintain
-air efficient
-have an easy to program board with multiple options for firing modes and air efficiency related settings. (whether you prefer LED's, LCD screens, or OLED, is up to you.)
- anti-chop eyes.
- reliability.
- FEEL COMFORTABLE TO SHOOT. this is of utmost importance.

Like others have said, personal preference is the most important factor. Always shoot it before you buy- there's bound to be a few people at your field who have one, and especially since you ref, you shouldn't have much trouble getting a hold of one to fire a few shots through. Ask about their experiences with it, how it holds up after long periods, what it's maintenance is like, and so on.

And lastly, check out reviews, either on this site or pbreview.com. They can be pretty revealing.

welcome to the adrenaline-fueld world of speedball, man!

The best thing to do is to just play with what you have. At the end of the day, make note of what you felt held you back the most and start by upgrading that. For instance, if you felt that your gun was too slow, perhaps a new trigger or circuit board may be appropriate. If you felt that your gun was not accurate enough, maybe it's time for a new barrel or better paint. Just work with what you have and upgrade as needed.

IMO ions suck my bro plays with one and he can't hit anything, besides the bunkers, i would upgrade to a better gun IMO dangerous power g3 you can get them used for about 200-230 range that should be a good investment for a gun and basicly what other people have said, mask, pants, pod packs, jersey, tanks, anything you need to upgrade

why do people converting to airball aways think the gear makes the player?
hell, start playing airball w/ a tippmann. you'll be at a huge disadvantage but you'll become an overall better player. then down the road, save up for a highend like an eclipse, macdev, bob long, dye, ect. and you'll be unstoppable
