Steel cut oats

How do you make these?
Any suggestions on making them taste better without adding too much to it?
How should they be when done?

you make them like any other oatmeal, they just take a little while longer to make.

bring 3 parts water to boil, add 1 part oats, lower heat so water is at low simmer and cook until they are a good consistency. Usually like 30-45 minutes for a good sized serving or two (in my experience).

There are other ways that probably give better results, but involve soaking them over night or cooking them for a long time in a slow cooker, etc...

Add whatever you want. They taste good by themselves. Maybe stir in a little bit of butter if you want. I usually put some chopped walnuts and cinnamon in mine. Maybe some dried berries or a little bit of honey if I want something sweet. Milk to get them to the consistency you want.

But a lot of the time I eat them with just a little sprinkle of cinnamon. I love it.

I have no idea what they are, but I am assuming they are pretty much oatmeal?? If so, then I like mine with either/a combination of honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, etc. to make it taste good.

Okay now I did a little research, they will be easy to cook, just boil in water or milk basically and let them sit. They take a longer time than normal oats to cook though, 10-30+ minutes.

Ya I just tried cooking them but they get thick so fast and soak up the water down to the last drop, so I kept adding water every time I went to stir it.

Came out alright, a little undercooked, but now I know.

Was decent, nevertheless.

Does milk make it taste any different than water?

Milk will just make it...milkier.

And starting with more water should solve your problems. Just start with 3 to 4 parts water for every 1 part oats.

Ive tried using milk to boil in, but it tends to boil over fast. makes it creamier. but if u add milk in the end anyways, just use water.
