I fail to see what SP can bring out for the SP-1!

- A body (unlikely)
- A Q-lock feedneck (likely)
- A barrel?

but apart from that, the Blackheart, eyes and QEV upgrade covers most of what you would upgrade an ION with for half the price... thats the reason i'm selling my ION!

Could be any number of things.

Scopes/Sights/lights etc
Colored bodies
Triggers
stocks
Maybe even an Ion conversion for the SP-1 (would make my project easier, lol)

I wouldn't sell your Ion just yet. Save up and get an SP-1 later, maybe they will drop the price again with a newer model.

Scopes and sights - thousands of scopes, sights and rails out there already.
Coloured bodies - a possibility, i would buy one providing its a decent camo.
Triggers - single or double, what more could you need?
Stocks - works with 98 stocks, so there are hundreds
Ion conversion for the SP-1 - the ION has a different board, bolt, reg, gripframe, feedneck etc. etc. so it would be a rather large kit (the ION XE has more parts compatible - bolt sleeve, bolt etc. but still)

what i would like to see is a rifled barrel from smart parts, but with straight rifling.

Rifled barrels have already been proven a gimmick and that they dont work in paintball vs bore sizing.

Proof

Since they already have one of the best selling adjustable bore barrel systems on the market, I doubt they will go down that road. The only thing in the barrel dept I could forsee, is maybe making the tactical barrel a possible Freak front option.

By Ion conversion, I meant the XE. BTW, the Ion bolt (all) is the same as the SP-1 bolt. The way you can tell this, is the Firebolt was an original Ion accessory/upgrade, yet it will work in the XE/SP-1/Vibe with no modification. The only difference between the Ion and the XE is the firing can and the feedneck.

Well i dunno about that, rifled barrels that try and spin a paintball too much wouldn't work, but a small amount of spin would increase consistency of the shot due to consistent spin.

then there is the Rap4 rifled barrels which reduce the barrel friction and therefore reduce the spin.

Just look at the accuracy of the hammerhead barrels or the old armson barrels, although i admit you would still need good paint.

The reason those barrels were accurate had nothing to do with the internal rifling. Those barrels were accurate because the paint matched the bore of the barrel. Rifling only works in real firearms due to the projectile being solid. A paintball is hollow and has a liquid fill, so in order for rifling to work, the fill must spin at the same rate as the shell. You really need to read that article that I linked. It was done by the inventor of the Automag, Tom Kaye. A very smart dude and very well respected in our (paintball) community. If rifled barrels were more accurate, then the Pro players, both Scenario and Speedball would be using them. They are simply a gimmick to get your money.

Ok, if spin (and therefore rifling) doesn't affect paintballs, why do you get longer range from a flatline barrel?

The main reason paintball accuracy is bad is spin, either induced by a bad barrel or dimpled paint.

From angling the barrel at an arc. Any barrel can do what a flatline/Apex does just by tilting the barrel up a few degrees. Paintball accuracy is bad due to the hollow shell and the seam. Also, flatlines/apex's create friction by placing a backspin on the ball, therefore, less efficient due to the user having to raise his velocity to compensate.

Tell me this, if flatlines are so awesome, why doesnt Tippmann's own Pro Team use them ?

Find a Flatline on these guns

The answer, they don't work well enough to be considered accurate.

I would expect a custom stock for the SP1 and a new offset feedneck
so you can see straight down the gun.
and probably some shrouds to go one the front.
They already have one of the best barrel systems and
a barrel to adapt to the apex for those who so choose.
Warlord is right about the accuracy.
You only gain distance with the apex or flatline, but if your
not shy with the paint you can hold guys back while
your team moves in.

i'm not trying to say that flatlines are accurate, its just an example of the big effect spin can have on the ball, even if it does have a liquid fill, just watch the Apex barrels swerve shots!

Face it, until they change paintballs themselves, the barrels we have today are as about as accurate as they get.

And Tiberius is attempting to do just that. Check out the Tiberius Arms "First Strike" paintballs. And the corresponding forum under Paintball News.

Much like this thread went when it started talking about barrels instead of Sp1 stocks.
