How to make the webcast better.

The idea here is to present the USPL/video company with some clear and concise opinions on what will make the webcast more appealing to the consumer.

I will list what I picked up from the other threads and add any additional thoughts that are posted. Please don't use this thread for venting your frustrations, I want them to see calm, clear and informative opinions. If you want to ***** please do it elsewhere, editing/deleting will be done as required.

Free: The biggest opinion seems to be people want it for free.

Worth the cost: It seems a lot of people would be willing to pay for access, but the overwhelming feeling is that a paid service should be more reliable.

Matty Marshall/Nick T: Mad love to Nicky Cuba, but I defiantly stand with the crowd that would prefer to watch Nicky destroy people on the field. Sorry.

Scoreboard: There isn't much of a need for a scoreboard in 7-man. But maybe a clock & dead/live count would be nice.

Smoother: Maybe an option of Low/High Quality for people with different capabilities or internet quality. Could also maybe have a free LQ, paid HQ, just a thought.

Better camera positions: Here is a link to part of the 2008 NCPA Championships. Which additionally has commentary by Matty Marshall and Bea Youngs, so you can hear why he is so loved as a commentator. I know that a lot of what they did was in post-production, but I'm sure there are somethings you could do in a live feed.

Pre-recorded "stuff": If memory serves me right the PSP world cup webcast had some pre-recorded stuff during breaks. Might even be able to sell some spots for commercial purposes, but not too much, could help make it better without all the cost going to the consumer.
* Splat magazine has some vids with pro-tips in them.
* Short pre recorded interviews
* Videos promoting new gear
* Videos reviewing gear

That's all I can think of for now, mind you these are not just my opinions, they are a collaboration of opinions, some of which I don't necessarily agree with. Please feel free to add additional thoughts, I will try and add them all to the original post, we don't need 4 pages of people saying "make it free" or anything of the sort.

I agree with these suggestions... watching the PSP webcast it is clear there is a difference in streaming quality and overall production quality. Having a degree in Digital Media Art and a concentration in video production of various popular formats I can sympathize first hand with anyone taking on a project of this complexity.

My perspective on it is that 6 cameras (4 in near the corners and two on either side of the 50 yrd line makes for an exciting and all encompassing view of the simultaneous and independent action on the field. The streaming quality should not be compromised, the correct production and streaming system does in fact make a difference in the end product to the viewer.

Not a jab here but call up Lane and ask him who they have producing theirs.

Patrick Sporher (sp?) does psp's webcast. Higher quality is the the biggest thing so far.

Field overview camera, rather than just zoomed in shots. That and a scoreboard, and by that I mean a live/dead counter and timer. At least then I can just turn off the sound and I wont have to listen to the commentary.

Also, to take a page from the NFL of sorts, how about a telestrator. By that I mean, instead of the suggested pre-recorded stuff. How about a diagram of the field and the pros drawing out what they saw as far as strats. Just a thought.

Very good idea. But that would also probably require an analyst. Any ideas?

I want to pay for it. Everytime it is free, even with the PSP, more people connect and the stability goes down. I get more excited when I hear there will be a small fee. It keeps the little kiddies from taking up the bandwidth. I think a small fee keeps those that are not serious from watching. Many of them watch just so they can complain about what they don't like. I have gladly paid for every paid event for the last 4 years. Sorry but I prefer it when I can pay for it.

Matty and Bea are the only commentators I have liked.

The timer and dead count should be standard.
