I think they did a pretty good job, not perfect (who's perfect?). But I was just there to have fun (played Pump on Sunday) AND I was on the dorito side. The U side is much harder to ref.

Just my point of view, I think the refs should get a break and some water/food otherwise they will get 'sluggish' as the day goes on.

Team Pickle - The Canadian with the camo jersey.
Refs know damn well what they are signing up for. It's not a mystery what they are going into. They train hard and work hard.

They signed up for the job and understand what is necessary. Bring a water w/ a straw or something onto the field. Its easy to get dehydrated so its only common sense to bring a drink. I am sure management wouldn't get pissy if a ref. took a beverage (with in reason) onto the field to drink in between games.

Yup, that was me. It was too hot to even wear a mask until a few seconds of game start.

I think the point I want to make is, if the refs were treated just a little bit better they could do a much better job overall. They shouldn't be 'expected' to grunt it out. If they are, then no one should expect them to be at their peak every single game. (Fair is fair right?)

Suggestion: There should be a refs table/staging area so they can pop over, grab some water/gatorade/food.

I'm glad to see a thread supporting the refs. The whole time I was in the grandstand, people kept *****ing about the refs making bad calls when it was against their team. The thought permeates the stands and then everything is the refs' fault. Funny thing is, probably all of the people who complain have never reffed...ever. IF they did, they would see how hard it is and shut the **** up.

2 cents...
I don't play pump to make it harder for me. I do it to make it easier for you.

There is no prize for being stupid. Please stop competing.

PROPS TO TOURNAMENT REFS!!!!!! It's a thankless job and not easy, and you guys make it happen. I'll never forget NPPL Denver 05 - worst tournament ever in terms of heat. 114 degrees in high altitude with thin air. Poor refs were dropping left and right and there was an ambulance on-scene for the entire tourney. That was the first time I had extra amounts of respect for the refs who were receiving oxygen, getting doused with cold water, and itching to get back to their job.

Anything like drinks that get brought on the field get shot up in one game.I know refs that bring coolers on the field, tuck them in a safe spot and they still look like bunkers covered in paint when its over. Some tournys do have a ref only staging spot near the field but some dont.

Show me 5 games in ANY sport without a game-altering mistake by an official, and I'll show you a bridge I've got for sale.

It looked to me like they did a fine job.

That is the problem in all leagues. The leagues never want to employ enough Refs to be able to rotate full fields at a time.

What really needs to happen, is that each league has to have a full field set of refs to be able to relieve an entire field at a time for at least 30-45 minutes, but most League owners don't want to hear that, because most of the time, that means $600-$800 extra a day. Go figure.

Only incident that I seen was the problem with Breakout vs Nurv. Big ref meeting after that though. I wont go into specifics but it was pretty obvious there was a bit of ref love. It stopped soon after because Ultimate was called over.
