What is EKK?
Let me lay this out for all of you players who think what you wear and where you post makes you who you are. The EKK is a way of life, both on the field and off, and is something that some of us are very proud to have been a part of. In the fall of 2003, shortly before the newly independent PSP was to have its World Cup of Paintball, two friends came together with an idea. While playing for team SYN (a combination of Warped Army, Livewire, Strange B, and M3 Factory), Jarrett McCraw and Ross O’Rourke decided to give paintball players of the Southeast and East coast a way to unite and support each other. Using a design that Jarrett had doodled on some lined paper, the boys had printed a small run of t-shirts and headbands that they sold from underneath the hitch of the Dragun trailer during Cup.

The few of us who were there that week can attest to the fact that this was something different. We represented EKK on the field, in the pits, around the event, and out each night, and when we saw another person wearing the mark, we knew we could say hey and instantly have something in common. That’s where we started. Here is where we are. People bickering over who’s “elite” and who’s got “priority.” Players wanting to get in on the newest fad in our increasingly pop-culture sport. Kids asking others kids if they can “join” like a bunch of five year olds at the door of a no-girls-allowed tree-house.

This is garbage. If you want gear…get yourself a sharpie and go to work. I’d bet money that you can put a nice black EKK on some of the PBFashion crap your mommy bought you.

It’s not about the gear. It’s about the game.

If you want to be “in” the EKK…just go play paintball. Go leave your heart on the field each and every time you pick up your gun. Don’t worry about how you look, how well your gear matches, who you play for, or who’s watching. Get out there and play for the love of the game…and one day, when somebody comes up to you on Sunday afternoon at World Cup and says:

“Holy **** dude! You were wrecking people out there today. Where are you from?”

…you can take a second to wipe off the mud and the blood and smile when you say “the East Koast.”
