yes, a new team can play any of the events, in any division except pro. You register your team through the USPL website, or the APPA website.... but not until they "open" the registration for that event.

I am new to the tournament scene, we could sign up for D1? can "d1" teams sign up for "d2" or "d3" for the tournament?

D3 is the lowest level, and if you're new to tournaments, then that's what I would reccommend you sign up for.

Okay thanks, 2 other questions while Im at it... Can you just pick and choose what events you play? or do you have to play the whole 'season'? I know that psp phoenix was just played, and USPL HB is coming up, but could I just play 1 event out of the 4 or 5 this year?
Also, for the ~1200 entry, how many/what type of matches could my team expect to play?
Thanks

Yes you can just play one event if you would like. With the entry fee for the USPL you will be able to play at least 8 games at the minimum. Judging by how you do through those 8 games decides whether you will advance to Sunday and play more games. The most games you could play at an event going all the way to finals/semi finals is 20 games, provided 16 teams are taken to Sunday.

im guessing their going off what NPPL did with scoring, so ill just post this
each game there is a possibility of 100 points.
a flag pull, and hang will give you points, as well as how many players you have shot and how many players the teams have alive.
So you shoot everyone, pull the flag, hang it, and everyone is alive, then you receive 100 points. But points get subtracted from that 100 as well. Even if you loose, but shoot some of the other teams players, then you receive points.
Points get added up, and after prelims, the top 16 teams advance depending on how many teams registered for the event.
You will more than likely be playing 8 full 7man games in the event
