How much would a brand new LS1 engine cost? Would it be able to be fitted to a 88 Caddy? Is it wise to buy these off of ebay?

I've never heard of this happening, but that doesn't mean its not possible. I agree, go check with a mechanic before.

BTW, why would you want to do this? I have a '87 Caddillac Brougham and that weighs lik 5000lbs. Most older model Caddies are too heavy to make it really fast... even with the LS1 engine.

yeah, the Caddy is heavy (mine weighs about 4,200 lbs.) I was only considering the idea, it would be very unqiue to do something like that. I'm 99% sure I'm going with the GSR, but still, this sounds so cool.

LS1s?? those are not really usually the engines you would put in a car...

Crate engines can be had for around 4000.. like a 350 or even a 396... they come pre modified, etc.. a 450 horsepower crate engine would run you about $5000, but installation would run about 3000
