But a very Important one... the scoring of prelim games should actually make sense to where you can tell how much of a win it was... 95-12 doesn't make any sense when it's a common score... lower the scores so it doesn't seem like an arcade game and make it so you can tell how close the game was
YES! dear god thank you.

wiping is one of the worst problems with tournament play in this sport and as people have mentioned previously in this thread, the penalties for wiping are not severe enough. at the least, a wiping penalty should be an automatic loss for that team. alternatively, more severe penalties could be the team forfeits the event entirely, or all game scores previous to the wiping penalty are negated.

until the penalty for wiping becomes severe enough, people are going to keep doing it.

another question:

is the uspl going to have 1 layout for the whole event like the psp does, or have multiple layouts like the nppl has done?

1 or 2 would be nice....

3 was really hard for divisional teams to learn. There's no way you can learn gameplans for three different fields in the amount of time that most teams have to practice for events.

1 is cool, and i don't mind 2, it ads a little more strategy to the game. i kinda enjoyed learning 2 layouts when i played SD last year. but i think anymore than 2 layouts is too much. 1 also makes it much easier and fair to all the teams to be able to practice on it before the event.

but with the uspl supposed to be running "lean" and cost efficient, i feel like they will be streamlining with just 1 layout.

OR

have two diffrent zones.... maby d side, restrict access to one side and let anyone willing to pay have access to the other side, or have risers for the media, there is a way to make ALMOST everyone happy and promote the sport.

or restrict access to only a few accreated media, then allow each team ONE or TWO (one for still's the other for video) persons on the field to get what they want to get.

there are lots of ideas might just have to try some and see what works best.
Agreed this can be a touchy subject. As an amateur, kinda I do make money from photography and have awards and publishing credits, I make my living in other ways. So I choose to acknowledge that I am not scrapping for shots to make a living and therefore refer to myself as an amateur. That said though, Some valid points made about the more attention we can garner by having more coverage would be positive.

As for myself, I would really like to be afforded the opportunity to take quality stills or video without having to shoot through the net. I would not support a sideline restriction to one side or the other. As with any other photo opportunity, stake your ground and go for your shot. This is no different than the rest of the world. If you have the expensive gear and great glass, your shots will stand out above the mediocre crap and be noticed. As we can easily acknowledge, the angle can sometimes be less important than being able to run 7+ frames a sec in a heated fire fight to get that 1 shot of an incredible paint break or the look if intesity on the players face that only expressive detail brings from shooting through quality glass, they are few and far between.

I do feel there is a place for true professionals making a living behind the glass. I do NOT feel there should ever be a fee charged to a demonstrated professional, period! Find a way to grant access to the amateur, but would agree that the backyard click sticks be limited (you know the ones with the micro miniature cameras trying to make it work kinds of people).

This is my appeal to make it accessible.

Na i say keep it to multiple layouts it more fun to have a mixture. Plus with one layout all the fields cant be set up exactly identical anyways and the shots and lanes will still vary from field to field. So mise well just make it multiple layouts.

i dunno, man.... when's the last time you had to learn 3 field layouts?

Most teams simply do not have the time/money/resources to set up three different fields prior to a tournament. One, sure. Two, maybe.... but definitely not more than that.

The Pro division only had to learn two... why do divisional teams have to learn more than that? I've never understood this. In HB 2007, I had to learn 3 field layouts, because we played all three. We did great on the one we had practiced... did decent on another.... and we lost every game on the third one, because we just didn't have the time to practice it.

The problem with letting anyone have a "media" pass is it will bring cheaters. As a pro I know if someone is sneaking up the snake not to shoot him. Also, the sidelines are crowded enough now, we really don't need more people cluttering the sidelines.

If anyone could buy a "media" pass teams would have spies with cameras camping out at the bunkers where the opposing team is hiding.

There is a reason they are called "media" passes.

Also, someone mentioned different passes for Center Court. They did this last year at some events. A blue vest got you access to all fields except Center Court. You needed a red vest to access Center Court.

i wouldn't mind seeing a more sophisticated flagging system.
If a player is hit a flag can be thrown in the area where the players is/was.
They already have flags for penalties so thats good.

All refs should have radios.

There should be specific roles for each ref ie tape reff, inside field reff, head reff etc and their boundaries should be well defined.

I would also like to see a ref be able to stop a game in order to make the right call in certain circumstances and that game stoppage cannot exceed a certain time limit.

I agree that scoring needs to be easier to manage. TOo many math mistakes in the past have cost teams.

Keep all the good ideas coming guys. One update: We will be using 1 field layout per event.

Thanks again for all the advice!
