as stated already, spending the extra on the STi is pointless because it doesn't do anymore better job at detection than the RX65... the only time you would need to buy the STi is if you live/drive in a state or Canadian province where using a RD is illegal... the STi is stealth to RDD (radar detector-detectors). Also, some states allow RD's but it's illegal to use while operating a commercial vehicle. Save your money and just the the RX65... Again, I know this because I was going to buy the STi, when I called the company directly (they have an "exchange program"), the operator actually talked me out of it because it's pointless to spend the extra money on a feature I won't need. She had nothing to gain by telling me that, but was just being helpful
here's a link that explain more about the STi

How much do you think I could sell my V1 on a local forum for?
I bought it awhile ago and ebay has a flex of prices from 200-350+

I picked up my v1 three weeks ago, and I'd say it's paid for about half of what I bought it for already.
Cops around my area use K and Ka band, mostly K though, no laser in my area yet.

just because a RD isn't V1 doesn't make them POS... both Passports and Beltronics (actually the same company) have great reviews/test scores... at times, even better than V1... yet at fractions of the cost of a V1. Do some research... there are actually Radar Detector forums... I know, because I lurk there from time to time...

here is a test done between a V1 and Passport 9500i... (which isn't a cheap model btw)... guess who got the verdict?

I had a Cobra once... it actually did a decent job... but I think it was one of their higher end models...

My dad has the 8500 and I have the Bel RX65, we seem to get very similar performance. I think they actually use the same technology because the company is the same. The V1's are rated better in some instances and sometimes the Bel and Escort take the edge. In sheer performance I think the V1 is the best but you get more little features that may or may not matter to you with the 8500 and RX65...
