How to test for short bolt (roll back issue)
If thats not the issue then you might have the short bolt / ball roll back issue, you'll need to test if you have that. how so?? this is how. Place a ball into the breach (no hopper), turn the marker on. Your light should turn green indicating you have a ball in the breach, now lean the gun back about 45 degrees (barrel to the sky) and the light should stay green, if it turns red then you have the short bolt issue. How to fix this?? Contact Dye, get an RA# for repairs, write it on the exterior of the shipping package and send them the bolt. takes about 2 weeks to get a new bolt. FIXED
OK, i baught 2 2008 SLG's from 2 different members on the forum. But they both came to me with short bolts and the roll back issue. No problem easy fix b/c all you gotta do is mail your bolt to dye and they replace it. I keep one and sent the other. in this pictures the top bolt is the New proper sized bolt, and the bottom one is short.
(both bolts still have lube on them thats y they dont look smooth)
Now they look almost i dentical in size, I dont have a a proper measuring tool other then a ruler and from the ruler they are the same length. Now what proto did was just replace the tip of the bolt, the back half was my original bolt it came back with my originial scuff marks lol. The new tip has slits in the side to use a wrench on.
The difference in length comes into play at the very tip of the bolt (thicker wall)
as you can see the top bolt (new bolt) has a thicker wall which makes a lower contact on the ball onces its in the chamber and pushs the ball further forward and breaks the eye beam. So the old bolt isnt short, its not a matter of length its a matter of where they touch the paintballs.
This diagram shows what i'm trying to explain about the bolt. New bolt on top is thicker walls then the old bolt on bottom. The blue lines show the bolt length to be the same but the balls are in different locations.
(hope this can help ppl who think they have short bolt issues. Always test for short bolt with the gun aired up
