Good R/C helicopter?

So for Christmas i really want to get a R/C Helicopter. I have not really flown many R/C helicopters but i figure if im going to get one then im going to go all out. This one is ready to fly (or ARTF) and it looks like it is pretty good to get up and going with.

i figure if i buy a simulator and practice on that all winter, in the spring i can go out in a big field and start to get the hang of it. maybe hoover a little and fly around a bit. If you think this isn't that great of a chopper or you know a better one, please please tell me. I might even be considering a gas powered one. I really want one i just don't know exactly what i want.

It all depends on your budget, e-flight makes some good ones like stated above, venom is another good brand, just research them but the venom or the blade series from e-flite are excellent choices.

k ill check out venom.. im still looking at the hunney bee cp2 though it looks nice for a good sized heli. Also it doesn't cost too much.

also im still debating on getting a 4 or 6 channel.

thats another thing i was thinking... although i have no clue how to fly a 7 channel and no one to teach me. The only person that could teach me is my grandpa and he had to have a pacemaker put in so he can't participate in the hobby anymore because of the transmitters. It's actually a pretty sad story because he used to fly rc jets, like legit jets with turbine engines. now he cant fly them.

So i have no trainer so im trying to learn with a simulator and a 6 channel electric before i go into the big stuff. That way i don't end up smashing the crap out of a nice chopper. I know ill crash a few times even though i have flown 4 ch choppers for a little under a year now. So i guess i know what its kinda like. When i said i havn't really flown any choppers i ment 6 chan.

If you want to get into this hobby, do your self a favor and spend the money on a proper heli that will actualy fly...

BEFORE THIS...
Get your self a simulator!!! real flight g4 etc. that will save you some money.

Go on www.runryder.com or various r/c forums, Look into a used t-rex 450 setup ~$500. And you'll thank your self in the long run.

Heli's are the hardest thing to fly, a simulator will help you learn.

Keep in mind of parts availability, you will crash for sure! there is no way around it. One of the reasons why I recomend you a t-rex 450 is because you can walk into a hobby shop anywhere in the world and they will carry parts for it.

Most of the crap you find for cheap have crappy electronics that can glitch on you.

I went in cheap with those ****ty walkeras from ebay, spent more time and money upgrading and repairing then flying.

Don't buy that stuff that wolf 450!! you're going to wish you did'nt.

one thing about the blade series - the larger and more expensive (read steadier) B400 3D comes highly recomended above the smaller less expensive (read less steady and more dificult to fly) blade CP/+/Pro/2

I bought my dad a CP Pro for his birthday a couple years back. Though I can't say I reccomend it. Way too advanced. Should have researched more because we're both terrible at flying it so we're looking into picking up something more beginner oriented.

dont EVER think that because you can fly a Coax heli that you can fly a REAL heli. Simulator simulator simulator THEN when you can fly the sim good and not crash, go outside and crash your brand new heli! Biggest challenge I have ever had in RC is flying a 3D heli.

For sure pick up realflight g4 sim. Then as someone above mentioned,Look into the trex series,If you prefer electric they have the 450 then gas 500-700.But if thats out of the price range look into the blade 4003d I just picked one up and it flies great also comes with the spektrum dx6i which is a geat radio.

well for christmas i got the Esky belt cp and realflight g4 sim. (i requested that if i get the chopper i get a sim). So i have like 3 months before i even consider taking the thing out to the field and flying it. I've been on the sim for about 6 hours in total. I can hover pretty well, right and left turns are what im getting into now. I can do right turns really well, but for some reason i suck at left turns.

oh i also practiced hovering with the nose towards me. That was challenging for a little while but then you get used to it and you can go back and forth from nose pointing away to it pointing at you

that blade 4003d looks exactly like the esky belt cp. It's even the same size. from what i can see a lot of the specs are pretty close too.

Well, on the topic, what's a decent mini helicopter that actually flys? I've got one that my mom got me for christmas, cheap little thing from Walgreens. Doesn't do much but go up and straight back down, but they're pretty sweet.

look at the E Flite Blade MCX great little heli, but will be no where near as durable as the foam air hogs heli's. BUT it flies forward, backward really well.

I would say look at the blade cp and the like. I like the blade since every hobby shop i have been has a good assortment of parts for them.

I learned to fly(and am still learning) on the blade. I understand the mechanics of flight a little better than most and did pretty well with it(as in hovered it in my relatively small living room within 20 mins of having it) without ever touching one before or ever touching a simulator.

I do however HIGHLY recommend a simulator, makes getting used to controld a ton simpler and without as many crashes, or late night runs to the hobby store :p .

If you go with a smaller heli there is one big thing you can do to make it fly more stable. Use plastic rotor blades. They are heavier so it has more rotating mass and helps keep the copter from wandering arounds as bad and it also helps if the chopper seems twitchy. IMO they make a huge difference.
