Nervous to upgrade?
Hey all,
I've been looking into the 2009 Proto SLG pretty hard core. I love the UL frame, the sleek look of the 2009, and the fact that I can get a new marker in Black.
My nervousness however stems from some issues I have been hearing about that I JUST got through with on my current 2008 SLG. Please tell me if I am too paranoid.
2009 proto SLG Issues:
Short bolt
Polymer Bolt breaks unexpectedly
Minor issue with OEM detents (Don't know details on this)
Marker going into "Machine-gun" mode (Possible spring issues)
It all boils down to the fact that I will probably buy this in the winter, not use it until summer (Michigan weather) and THEN have something break. I'll then more than likely be down a atleast a month which will cause extreme buyers remorse.
Am I being too critical?
Thanks!

The only reported issues specific to the 09 is the derlin bolt tip breaking.
The machine gun thing your reported is just low working pressure (raising the reg fixes it, at least till now...)

Yea worst case scenario you send the bolt into dye.
but since you're not going to be using it for a while and if you receive one with a derlin tip you could send it in to dye before even using it and get a metal one.
I just bought a 09 slg to replace my 08 as well (i see tcheno did the same too). I say you should too

How do you tell the bolt tips apart?

Ok, thats good to know. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the proper tips once I get ready. I don't want any issues i just got through cleaning up on my 2008.
PS: Any word on aftermarket bolts for the 2009? Probably too early to tell, but i figured you guys would know 1st if there was.

Pretty OT, but gun slayer, why would I care if I'm reading that in english or some other language?
If I were reading it in a different language, wouldn't I blame a soldier?
To make this post legit, there are no aftermarket bolts, and the problems with the guns seem pretty sporadic. They've been selling well (relative to other guns in the downturn) and although some problems pop up on here, it doesn't seem extremely widespread.

in your case I would suggest trying to contact Dye and see if you can just purchase the metal bolt tip alone for the 09 slg ( make sure you specify) as in the long run it would be cheaper than shipping both ways and the long wait without a gun.

Contact Dye as see if they have a local representative.
If so, you're home safe!
